JG first appeared on the London Jazz Scene playing and recording with Ed Jones, Orphy Robinson, Eddie Parker, Tim Whitehead, Bobby Wellins, Steve Williamson, Christine Tobin, and many others.
He later formed a trio with Steve Rose and Winston Clifford which recorded 3 albums, toured internationally, and was virtually resident at Ronnie Scott Club in London. He also worked with Joe Lovano, David Murray, Teddy Edwards, Mark Murphy, Art Farmer, Benny Golson and with poet Lemn Sissay in Cameroon and Singapore.
Most recently he has started forming musical ties abroad. In Italy touring and recording with Gee Gallo Minetto, and now Gee Lepore Zirilli, and with saxist Tommaso Starace. In France with Didier Conchon/Ray Layzelles Quintet featuring Wayne Dockery on bass and Antoine Banville on drums.(First album out soon) Also in duo with bassist Nicola Sabato. In Finland with trumpeter/producer Mika Myllari the Northern Star people project is about to release its first album, and as resident trio for a while at Helsinki Jazz Festival.
In the UK with Tony Kofi, Ben Hazleton and Winston Clifford he has ( with the Monk Liberation Front) performed the complete works of Thelonious Monk, and under Tony’s name the quartet have their second album out in April 2008.
JG also sings with bassist Larry Bartley, and is a member of Micheal Mwenzo’s Male Vocal Combustion.
