Classically trained on piano and French horn, Hoevenaars shifted to contemporary styles in 2001, after experimenting with a keyboard at Christian College's Back Creek rural campus in Scotsburn. Self-taught in modern styles of piano and voice, Hoevenaars has a passion for popular music and songwriting. Pioneer member of both Fabulous Queen Benny and His Divine Velvet Jets, and The Jontee Project, Hoevenaars continues to spend his spare time making music while having a laugh.

Yeah it's a pretty sweet gig. I'm helping to produce Mark Doran's 12-4 show so they've got me doing anything from getting background info and stats, to talking calls, to confirming interview talent, monitoring the wires and stuff. They've just thrown me on a project to commemorate the 50 years of the Olympics which involves like 13 short stories - gonna be a bit of work but will be good experience.
