Jonathan is backed by some of the most talented people playing these days. Some you might be familiar with, bassists Randy Tico, Taras Prodaniuk (Richard Thompson, Dwight Yoakum, Lucinda Williams), and drummer Michael Jerome (Richard Thompson, Blind Boys of Alabama, John Cale), drummer/bassist Jessie Siebenberg (Fine Frenzy, Supertramp, Kenny Loggins), drummer Scotty Lund (Stone Honey), or Sax player Karl Hunter (Big Bad Voodoo Daddy). Others you'll discover and want to check out further (Phile Salazar/fiddle, Don Heffington/drums, Billy Hawn/drums, Jo Pusateri/drums, David Raven/drums, and others.) Sometimes it's just Jonathan. You just have to go check him out to see what surprises are in store, and there are always surprises with Jonathan on stage.

Buzzine Magazine's Emmanuel Itier said in a recent review, "Jonathan doesn't play the guitar, he is the guitar!"
Jonathan McEuen was born to play music and bring joy to those listening. His dad was a famous rock star banjo picker. Good genes help, but when people respond to Jonathan’s extraordinary guitar playing and voice, it’s obvious he’s not just another son of a star. A number of well-known artists have gotten excited about Jonathan's obvious talents lately and over the last few months of 2008, he's been invited to join Dwight Yoakam, Robben Ford & Dave Mason for shows.
Spending his youth on the road, playing & singing on stages all over the country certainly made the most of his natural gifts and he's very grateful for that. Playing guitar and singing with so many world class artists both inspired and toughened him up for the ups & downs of a career as a performing musician. From 2005-2006 he tried out the country music world on a major label - as part of the duo Hanna McEuen (with his cousin Jaime Hanna.) That helped confirm it was time to move forward with creating music that expanded and pushed the boundaries of his extensive musical influences or specific genres.
With more shows behind him than he can count (Jay Leno, Grand Ol’ Opry, and Red Rocks among them), Jonathan's well-prepared to take music and audiences in a new direction, free of limitations. Creating the need for additional genres, breaking some molds and breathing new life into musical traditions sounds like a lofty goal, till you see Jonathan and hear what he's doing.
With a guitar in his hands, and a microphone in front of him, if people with a heartbeat are within earshot, you can almost hear the sound of jaws hitting the floor and frequent religious invocations. Audiences are stunned silent by the passion of the “edge of your seat” guitarist, moved to tears by the depth and intense beauty of his voice, and scream with abandon when he breaks into a Prince or Dave Mason number. Moving fluidly in and out of folk, blues, rock, bluegrass and country influences, he makes it all work, deftly fusing genres in a delightfully eclectic way, with a generous helping of wit and charm.
My upcoming self-produced 7-song EP, "B Sides from B Street" is set to hit shelves June 30th. Come take a listen to a handful of the tracks and see what you think! Influences span the likes of: John Prine, Chris Smither, Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, Jackie Greene, Josh Ritter, Wilco, Redbird, and other singer/songwriters keeping the craft alive.
I'm booking shows throughout California right now if any other musicians are looking to cobill. I'll be playing a set at Old Santa Ynez Day this year @ the Jones house.

Thanks for the add and ---<br /><br />There was once a young man who, in his youth, professed his desire to become a great writer.<br /><br />When asked to define "great" he said, "I want to write stuff that the whole world will read, stuff that people will react to on a truly emotional level, stuff that will make them scream, cry, howl in pain and anger!"<br /><br />He now works for Microsoft, writing error messages...<br /><br />:-)
