I listened to a lot of stuff growing up, and I can't say it didn't all affect my writing and playing. Anyone who was at ever moody, cheeky, rebellious, or introspective, and who made their music available to me in any format --LP, cassette, or 8-track format- owes you a mea culpa. I can't say that you'll catch all of the traces in everything I do, but holding my work on your palate should reveal the flavours coming through.
Christy Moore, Mary Black, Andy M Stewart, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Marc Bolan, Hank Williams, Jake Thackray, Jerry Lee Lewis, Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed, Joey Ramone, John Lennon, George Harrison, Pete Hamm, David Bowie, Johnny Cash, Cat Stevens, Eric Clapton, the Dillards.
Don't forget Sheb Wooley --or was that just the Wilhelm Scream? Well, that too, then. Right, on to the next thing...
Sounds Like
Shane McGowan, Christy Moore, Luka Bloom, Robbie O'Connell, Van Morrison, Andy Irvine, Mary Black, Ewan MacColl, Andy M. Stewart, think all-acoustic versions of the Pogues, Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, Gaelic Storm, Great Big Sea, Saw Doctors, the Elders, Jimmy Page (if he sang, and he decided he could only sing an Irish song), the singing of Altan, Clannad, Chieftains, Planxty, Bothy Band, Boys of the Lough, Battlefield Band, and Silly Wizard.
Tis true. They all sound like me, every one of 'em.
Jonathan Ramsey, with his "altarboy look and edgy choirboy tenor voice", stirs up brash protest and drinking songs with sweet ballads. The result is a mix of Irish traditional, modern, and original folk. His musical background and strangely big, percussive sound allow for organic trips into rock and pop. Jonathan's newest recording, "Live at Cruisin' Route 66", showcases the broad dynamics of his on-stage sound, including his trademark songs of love, rebellion, murder, and the compulsory smattering of "happy songs about death".
Raised both on the New Jersey shore and in land-locked Missouri, Jonathan is neither a rock musician working at Irish music, nor a folk singer struggling to cross over. He's purely a product of being Irish and American in a modern world.
Jonathan delivers a wild, one-man show full of attitude-filled Irish songs. He's almost half Christy Moore stirred into a cup of David Bowie.

Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat?
A while ago I found stuff that inspired me to make this film:
Living Under the Shadow of the Nuclear Umbrella
Both artistic (ensure you get the background music!) and educational, it primarily comprises official British government civil defence advice.
Though source materials are quite aged, much remains relevant today.
