 Jaye Jonathan aka JJ- "R&B singing/songwriting sensation." This musical power house was born on Valentine’s Day, 1987; in Dallas, TX. Music and love are no strangers of this day. It was only destiny that Jaye Jonathan would fall in love with music. JJ quickly took on a strong fascination with music ranging from Classical, R&B Soul, pop, hip-hop, jazz, and blues. Since the age of 11, JJ has encompassed her love for music by playing and studying the violin as well as nurturing her talent as a vocalist. “I believe it was when I was in the 7th grade when I grasped what I was vocally capable of”, she goes on to describe, “there was a time in the girls locker room when this song came on the radio, “Nobody” by Deborah Cox, I sang the bridge of the song, which was vocally challenging by the why and I nailed it.” She had all the star qualities, which wasn’t the issue, but it was how to take her talent in the direction of stardom.
JJ participated in many activities in and out of school. All where she could further develop her skills, win awards along the way, and do what she loved doing best performing. She sang in talent shows, choir musicals and took on roles in plays. She also has a skill for writing. It became her outlet for dealing with everyday issues she or others experienced, and the emotions that took place, conveying her thoughts and beliefs, and just talking from the heart. “I’m not even sure how to describe how I write”, she shakes her head with a laugh. “I guess the best way I can describe it is by calling it “sing-styling”, you know how rappers free-style, well I sing-style, I listen to an instrumental and then I start to vibe with the track and words start flowing out.” It hasn’t been until now, that she has introduced her songwriting ability to the public, with songs she has recorded. JJ has recently joined in collaboration with a song writing team known as the Front Runners. “This is hot, actually this production team is fire, each member of the group beings a unique song writing vibe to the entire group.” She is slowly being recognized for her gifts, which leads us to JJ today as she has been going through many trials and tribulations getting to where she wants to be as a national recording artist she aspires to be, and has always dreamed of.
JJ is currently acquiring a Bachelors of Arts in Music performance at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, TX, and is creating a buzz with her unique, sultry voice, and clever lyrics. With her creative and enlightening music inspired from a range of artists such as Tamia, Lauryn Hill, Beyonce, and Celine Dion just to name a few.
