Jon Maharaj is a freelance bass player from Toronto, Canada. He has appeared on dozens of albums ranging from orchestral music, to R&B, to modern jazz. He currently plays with or has played with The Harley Card Quartet, The William Carn Quintet, Dione Taylor, Joel Frahm, Christian Scott, Matt Stevens, Aaron Parks, Don Thompson, Mike Murley, Reg Schwager, The Canadian Tenors, and many others. In 2007 he was given a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts to study in NY, where he had the opportunity to take lessons with Drew Gress, Scott Colley, Matt Brewer and Ben Street. He is currently working on his debut album as a leader, which is set to be released in early 2010.
