A little background from Jennifer Harwood, Gordon Stone Band
A while back our bass player, Aram Bedrosian, hurt his wrist. We asked him if he knew anyone who could handle the material we play. A few days later he called to say he had a student, Jon McCartan, who might be up to the task and would be thrilled to play in the band.
Gordon and Jon got together once before the first show. Jon had a mere 24 hours to pull off 20 original songs and a few traditional fiddle tunes (we were playing with Mike Barnett at the time), in front of a few hundred fans in downtown Burlington, VT.
He sailed through the performance. With a few shy grins from the stage he finished the concert. He played with us the rest of that weekend. That was in July of 2005. He officially joined the band in September 2005. He is hard working and motivated and a joy to play with and be around!
He has played with Vinnie Amico from moe., Chris Machetti from RAQ, Russ Lawton, Paddy Keenan of The Bothy Band, Jimmy Ryan and has been on stage at Highline Balllroom in NYC, the Paradise Lounge in Boston, Snoe.down, Sterling Stage, StrangeCreek, Linda Norris Auditorium, and in April 2006 traveled to Thailand to play at the Hat Yai Midnight Songkran* & World Musiq Festival!
Jon is from Albany, NY and moved to Burlington to attend the University of Vermont. His interest in bass began in his early teens and, through listening and exploring different musical genres and sounds, taught himself to play. After making connections in the Burlington music scene, he started taking lessons from Aram and as they say, "The rest is history."
