With handfuls of original music and armloads of mastered instruments in tow, Jon O’Shaughnessy is without a doubt making a splash debut into today’s music world. His cheeky blend of acoustic rock and heartfelt lyrics demand attention from any listener. Not your typical recording artist, O’Shaughnessy both pens his own music and brings the compositions to life. His extraordinary talent with the piano, guitar, and drums has molded him into one unbelievably gifted musician and performer.
Having lived in England, France and the United States., O’Shaughnessy grew up with a variety of musical influences, including The Beatles, Queen, Michael Jackson, Tracy Chapman and The Dave Matthews Band. He began learning the piano at quite an early age, although it wasn’t until he was about 5 years old that he began cultivating his talent with professional lessons. Several years later, after his family settled in New Jersey, his musical interests expanded even further. “I watched an episode of ‘The Wonder Years’ where Kevin bought an electric guitar and asked my mother if I could take lessons,” he remembers, “I found it was an extremely difficult instrument to learn, which is what drove me to play until my fingers were bleeding.” It was during one of his guitar lessons, just a few short years later when overhearing a rehearsal, that O’Shaughnessy eagerly shifted his rhythm into percussion as well.
While Jon regularly participated in the typical band concerts, it wasn’t until he was in his mid-teens that he performed solo at a local open mic night. To his surprise, the often hard-to-please coffeehouse crowd became captivated by his performance as the music wrapped itself around everyone in the room, bringing the usually fast-paced establishment to a complete halt. Jon states, “I was literally dumbfounded. Musicians that I thought were way better than I was, never got the same courtesy.” It was then that O’Shaughnessy first realized that he might have what it takes to pursue a musical career.
Having spent several more years honing in on his craft, Jon O’Shaughnessy is now prepared to make the next steps toward his goal. Including signing with one of the industry's top management companies, Wright Entertainment Group in association with StraightUp Entertainment Group.
His inspiration lies within the world around him: people, places and even tragedy. His gift to extract such sensitivity is remarkable and his passion relentless. While his lyrics reflect his thoughts, his melodies reflect his emotions. And the two dance together to create the whirlwind of sound that is Jon O’Shaughnessy.
