JP's Interests
|
| General | All that glitters and is gold... Really, reading, music (hearing and performing), drinking new things, cooking (new one for me), hanging out with friends, not hurting! | | Music | Just about anything other than bad R+B, rap, boy bands, kid pop, and really, really, REALLY harsh metal. Try me. Raised by music educators, my first exposure to modern music didn't happen until I was five, and the babysitter put 'Walk Like an Egyptian' on the radio (which may explain a few things, actually). My first musical love is the incredibly old stuff, especially things written for the violin. | | Movies | Anything dark and depressing, mildly to wildly sexy, and involving big bladed things pretty much gets four stars as far as I'm concerned... Loved Capote, Elizabeth, the Kill Bills, Lola Rennt, The Pillow Book, But I'm a Cheerleader, Happiness, etc. Also like unforgiveably upbeat shit like Mean Girls, Bring it On, Go Trabi Go, The Truth About Cats and Dogs, and Trick. And despite what my music profile may lead you to believe, I'm VERY opinionated about film. | | Television | Don't have cable or rabit ears, so... Pretty much only DVD boxed sets at this point. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Six Feet Under, Sex in the City, Alias, The Family Guy | | Books | NOTHING by Dan Brown. I think he's a terrible writer with a great eye for symbolism. Murasaki Shikibu's 'The Tale of Genji,' the world's first novel. Henry Fielding's 'Tom Jones,' one of the world's funniest novels. Frank Chin's 'Donald Duk,' for getting life as a teen boy, minority or not, right. Jeffrey Eugenides' 'The Virgin Suicides' for getting the dark part of that same story. Nathan Englander's 'For the Releif of Unbearable Urges,' for its ability to be sparklingly funny while ripping out your seams. David Sedaris' 'Dress Your Family in Courderoy and Denim' for much the same reason. Anything by Octavia Butler, for being the only sci fi author to ever really take me away from the planet without very many of her stories actually leaving it. Finally, anything by Neil Gaiman, who is the very finest teller of half-truths. | | Heroes | Sam 'n Lauren, Rob. |

JP's Blurbs |
About me:
I'm 69 and a half inches tall, weigh approximately 170 pounds, give or take a stone (though a small one), and have brown hair and eyes when I have hair.
|
Who I'd like to meet:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (if you know me, duh...), Tori Amos (just plain cool), Adolph Hitler (I find self-hatred fascinating, don't get any funny ideas about this one), and my paternal Grandfather (died before I was born). Otherwise, I find it quite pleasant to meet just about anybody, as long as they don't know my ex-wife.
