Just me and my dawg... All songs written, played, recorded and produced by Jools Owen.
Influences
Far too many to mention really, I like listening to everything from Martin Carthy to Squarepusher and most things in between. Maybe one day when I'm bored I'll sit down and list them all but life's quite short... For starters though and in no particular order; Ani DiFranco, Elbow, Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake, Iron and Wine, Reef, Emiliana Torrini, John Frusciante, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson films, Bonobo, Bjork, Sigur Ros, Cinematic Orchestra, Jose Gonzalez, Fink, John Butler Trio, Sublime, Blind Melon, Lemonheads,Youngblood Brass Band, J B Trio, Kula Shaker, Martha Tilston, Tunng, G-Love, Devendra, Kings Of Convenience, Billy Brag, Radiohead, Coldplay, The Mars Volta and large quantities of roots and dub?? Getting a bit frustrated now because I really couldn't begin to include all the music I love!! Finally, my fantastic friends and girlfriend and the sea and people in general - because without the last few I'd have nothing to write about! I'll end my bid, but thanks for reading if you did!
Sorry! Haven't had any time to write a bio as yet but expect one soon... Thanks for looking at my page though, please feel free to add me to your friends and check back soon for some more info!! Jools x :-)
hey jools, yeah sorry i missed you too...was massivly busy at work most of the time; did play thursday night but it was wet, shitty and there was nobody there, then I got loads of hassle from the security after walking down the beach with an unopened berr. needless to say I've gone off beached festivel a little. Hope your good...gonna be down south cornwall over x-mas so maybe we get some waves together...easy. ol
Hey dude, Yeah I was gutted too. She texted just before she flew but was all too bad. Checked out your shit as well dude, love Song For Bo. When are you meeting up with her ?
Jools, Hope all is good my friend. Not sure when you check this page but called either way I have a new classical track up for FREE download called "Angels On Our Shoulders" if you want to have a listen as and when.
cheers for the c.d, i think we're gonna use 'hot weather', if thats cool. it would be wicked if you could get together a set for beached. i might take you up on that offer for drumming sometime around then too. take it easy.
Hi Jools, been a bit slow commenting on the comments. So heres one :) Ive just added some un-released work onto my/myspace, check out "Find Your Feet" its the track I was working on before the Bo re-work. Hope alls good. Leighton.
Back at you mate. Song for bo reminds me much of Badly Drawn Boy at his best, reflective and poignant. I'm not gigging really at the mo, everything has almost reached a stand-still - put on the back burner until i return from my trip to Japan, I don't know when I'll be back but more than likely within a year. It may surprise you that apart from christmas circles and waiting for the sunshine the drummer aint real, its the ever so talented BFD (Barbara-Freda Donahue) hitting those skins, playing the beats I programmed, but between you and me I'd much rather you drum on my songs than BFD, she can be way to fiddly at times! I'm performing in macc as part of the oxjam i've organised, if your in the cheshire region around then feel free to get in touch and id deffo be up for working something out, but don't worry if you can't, its a tall order! Johnsy's DJing so it should be good!
Mate its great to hear from you! It would be awesome to see you man, your more than welcome in Leeds at anytime, that's a given! We could still do with a copy of your album mate, the tracks on your page sound brilliant!
We've just got back from playing down in London town at 93 Feet East, saw a good number of the uni crew, it was awesome!! We should definitely try and get a reunion type thing going on this summer, with as much live music as possible!
What are you doing now? Hope it's something musical my boy!
Anyhow, get back to us when you can and we'll sort something out!
Hiya man! I'm sitting at the moment with a huge grin across my face coz of ur kind words...ur a legend, glad life's treatin' ya well too. Me n'd kari r living in a place called Beverley ('bout 45 mins away from Scarborough) which is shweet, although i'm in the throws of trying to join the rat race at the mo (boo!) which is tricky. Awesome to hear from ya man, stay in touch John
Hey, I really like your tunes. The one about unemployment was really cool! I'm so glad I helped you put yourself out there. You'll shit yourself at first with intimidation (at least I did!), but it gets better. It actually gets fun! Keep it up, and keep in touch. xx j
Thanks Jools. That was one cool necklace. Hoping hoping to come back to Manchester soon. What cool people. And I really want to see the Curry Mile. Keep in touch. I can't hear your music as the speakers here don't work. x
hey jools, good to hear... love your music as always mate; I've just woken up to 'song for bo', and it's left me feeling like I want to go run around in the rain. easy bro. ol
