What if some mad musical genius decided to blend the amazing talents of multi-platinum superstars Carrie Underwood, Norah Jones, and Kelly Clarkson? The result would probably sound something like…Jordan Trotter (www.jordantrotter.com). A familiar sounding blend of pristine voices that is also refreshingly unique.
After listening to Jordan’s exquisite debut CD from Moonwatcher Music you would probably never guess that this was her first time cutting vocals in a recording studio or her first time fronting a band. Based on the quality of her songwriting you would also probably never guess that this was Jordan’s first time writing her own material (“Ain’t Enough” & “Bonnie & James”). What will be obvious to the listener is her love for great American music and the pre-eminent singer/songwriters of the ‘70s and ‘80s, such as Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, and Emmylou Harris.
Veteran Producer Joe Taylor (the successful recording artist/producer for legendary label RCA/Victor) assembled a stellar collection of songwriters and musicians to support Jordan during the production of her eponymous debut. The choice of material and musical textures range from a mellow, funky reading of the Jimi Hendrix classic, “The Wind Cries Mary” to the emotionally-charged, powerful pop/country ballad, “It Matters To Me,” co-written by veteran songsmith, Jeff Franzel, who has previously had his hit songs recorded by Clay Aiken, Shawn Colvin, Hayley Westenra, and Taylor Dayne.
Other standout songs include the bluesy, sultry pop of “I Want You,” the latin-tinged “Magia De La Luna,” the finely orchestrated, lush arrangement on the pop/country track “Gave Her Wings,” and an up-tempo, energetic cover of the Joni Mitchell classic, “Car On A Hill.”
This “must listen” debut release from one of 2008’s most intriguing new artists will appeal to a large crossover audience of pop, country, and blues genres. Recommended for fans of Carrie Underwood, Norah Jones, Kelly Clarkson, Faith Hill, Leann Rimes, and Martina McBride. 2008 should turn out to be an exciting year in the development of this talented artist.
By the way...her live show rocks! If you're a fan of tremendous live acts such Susan Tedesci and Maria McKee, make sure to check out Jordan on tour throughout the Southeast in early 2008, supported by her killer band featuring the fiery fingers of renowned guitarist, Joe Taylor, virtuoso bassist Donnie Sowell (The Root Doctors), and L.A. session drummer, Steve Kelly. Jordan delivers a high-energy show featuring hot versions of songs recorded on her debut CD.
