The Los Angeles Times has described Jordan Charnofsky as playing the classical guitar with “lucid grace,” “a sure hand,” “expressive range,” and “bravura.” Classical Guitar magazine has said, “Jordan Charnofsky may well take his place among the California guitar stars...a wonder to see and hear.” Guitar Player magazine has called him “an amazing classical guitarist and composer.” Listen.com said, Superior technique takes this nylon string guitarist's playing into the stratosphere...filled with fiery, emotional playing.”

Charnofsky holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Classical Guitar Performance from the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music. He holds minors in Early (Ancient) Music and Music Education. He was honored by the faculty as The Outstanding Doctoral Degree Graduate of the USC Thornton School of Music. He also holds the Master of Music degree from USC and the Bachelor of Music degree from CSUN. Jordan is the winner of the USC Guitar Concerto Competition. From 1995 to 2004, he maintained the position of Musical Artist-in-Residence at the Brandeis-Bardin Institute in Simi Valley.

As a featured soloist with symphony orchestras, to solo performances on television shows, to performances in Japan and Russia, Charnofsky excels as a solo performer and ensemble musician. He is a founder and the producer of the world music group
Hollywood Klezmer. He is also a founder (with vocalist Vanessa Paloma) and producer of the Sephardic (Judeo-Spanish) music group, Flor de Serena. He frequently performs in a duet with flutist Dr. Martin Glicklich. Jordan has taught for The USC Thornton School of Music, The Los Angeles Jewish Symphony, The University of Judaism, Cerritos College and Moorpark College.

The Columbia Music Company has published Jordan's original guitar compositions, including Divertimento & Sonho do Mar.
Theodore Presser Co. is the distributor of these works. Jordan was commissioned by The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet to specially arrange three traditional Klezmer Dances for them. The L.A. Guitar Quartet has recorded the Klezmer Dances (Tracks 6-8) on their top selling album LAGQ (1998) on the Sony Classical label.

Dr. Daniel Kessner composed the work Dances: For Clarinet and Guitar for the duo of guitarist Jordan Charnofsky and clarinetist Richard Lesser (principal clarinet emeritus of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, 1968-2002. Since 1968, head of the Clarinet Department of the Rubin Academy of Music at Tel Aviv University). The USA performance premiere was given by Jordan Charnofsky and clarinetist Dr. Julia Heinen. The World Premiere CD recording by Jordan Charnofsky and clarinetist Richard Lesser has been commercially released by Crystal Records. The published edition of Daniel Kessner's Dances: For Clarinet and Guitar has guitar fingerings by Jordan Charnofsky. Available from: Theodore Front Musical Literature, Inc.

With six years of live entertaining at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles (at the Shrine Auditorium, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the Kodak Theater),
on-stage accompanying Luciano Pavarotti in Staples Center, being featured with his group in the Playboy Jazz Festival, to being featured in the World Festival of Sacred Music, Jordan leads a very diverse and unique musical performing career. Since 2003 he has served as guitarist for the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra.

Jordan has served as a guitar competition adjudicator for the American String Teachers Association Guitar Competition, and for the USC Guitar Concerto Competition. Professional affiliations include: Professional Musicians Local 47 (American Federation of Musicians, AFM), The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), The American String Teachers Association (ASTA), and The Guitar Foundation of America (GFA). Jordan currently sits on the Board of Directors of
The Guitar Foundation of America.

Jordan was instrumental in compiling Volume I of the Vahdah Olcott Bickford Guitar Music Library Catalogue, under the direction of Dr. Ronald C. Purcell. He spent fourteen months computer cataloguing, researching, and helping to organize this important collection of early 19th- through 20th- century first editions and rare manuscripts. The collection is now known as
The International Guitar Research Archive.

Jordan has performed in many master classes and performance classes of top international concert guitarists and teachers, including: Carlos Barbosa-Lima, Michael Chapdelaine, Olivier Chassain, Ricardo Cobo, The Falla Trio, Eduardo Fernandez, Eliot Fisk, Alexandre Frauchi (in Russia), Oscar Ghiglia, Brian Head, Adam Holzman, Sharon Isbin, William Kanengiser, Norbert Kraft, David Leisner, The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, Vladimir Mikulka, The Newman-Oltman Duo, Frederick Noad, David Parsons, Dr. Ronald C. Purcell, Stepan Rak, David Russell, Jack Sanders, James F. Smith, Neil Smith, David Tanenbaum, Scott Tennant, James Tyler, Jeffrey Van, Benjamin Verdery. Private guitar instructors have included: Brian Head, Dr. Ronald C. Purcell, James F. Smith, Scott Tennant, James Tyler (Baroque guitar & Renaissance lute).

A refined classical crossover artist, Jordan bridges the styles of classical, folk, world music, pop, rock, klezmer and Sephardic music. Jordan has absorbed music from many of the world's traditional cultures, with his guitar as the unifying, universal link. From the purity of playing the Renaissance lute and Baroque guitar, to utilizing software synthesizers and computer audio sampling, Jordan openly embraces music from ancient times to the 21st century.

Instruments played: Classical Concert Guitar, Electric Nylon String Classical Guitar, Guitar Synthesizer Controller; Electric Guitar, Steel String Acoustic Guitar, 12 String Acoustic-Electric Guitar, Mandolin, Renaissance Lute, Baroque Guitar, Electric Bass Guitar, Banjo, Keyboards, Piano, Software and Hardware Synthesizers, Audio and MIDI Sample Programming and Editing.
