QUOTES/REVIEWS:
“What a great discovery! Jordie Lane sounds like he’s absorbed the works of the great songwriters and is now able to speak with the same authority in his own music. Jeff Lang (2007)
“When you listen Jordie Lane’s songs, you’ll hear he has one of those classic voices. In some tracks, you can hear the velvety timbre of Leonard Cohen. In others, it’s the jokey snideness of Loudon Wainwright lll, or the country whipped vocals of Willie Nelson.”
Benjamin Law, Frankie Magazine (issue 25, 2008)
"From the opening words of his heartfelt, simple Sweet Somebody to the final notes of Died lookin’ at you I felt like I was on a journey somewhere between Hank Williams and Ryan Adams, somehow familiar and yet wonderfully new" Fasterlouder.com.au(live at Toff In Town,30/08/2007)
"We recently did an Australian Americana special here on AmericanaOK. The inspiration for the show was the stunning Jordie Lane seven track EP “Lover’s Ride”. Every track on this self released EP is a gem. Each of the seven tracks seems to represent a strand of Americana from gorgeous Townes Van Zandt type ballads to Gram Parsons style country soul. If you want to hear one of the very best Americana records of recent years listen to this. You wont be disappointed but may be surprised that it comes from Melbourne, Australia rather than Austin Texas." Americana Ok (2007)
"Like two lovers dancing hip to hip, Jordie Lane's Lovers Ride seduces with the cuts Bottle of Her Love and Sweet Somebody. His vocals conjure up hints of Jeff Buckley, Gram Parsons and Jimmie Rodgers. (Yes the man can yodel and it is a very sexy one at that). The rockers Old Quarter Town and Drunk on Love (with Liz Stringer) kick up the passion and hits a celebratory groove. High & lonesome, vulnerable and sexy. My only complaint is that he lives half-way around the world (sigh)"

"We caught the last three songs of local songster, Jordie Lane, who we caught with his full band at Port Fairy a couple of months ago, and while it was just him on his own tonight with guitar and harmonica, it still served to show his talent in the singer / songwriter vein. His voice is solid and clear, his mastery of his instrument deluxe" Sam Fell(Live Review from Northcote Social Club) May 5, 2007
“Such a number of credible sources have been advising me to check out Jordie Lane that when Lane himself sent me a number of demo recordings he’d just made, my ears immediately pricked up. I was not disappointed. Lane has developed a brand of music unique to Australia, one that has one foot firmly planted in the traditions of candid country-folk music, whilst the other foot steps across boundaries, unafraid to visit contemporary themes.”

“Jordie Lane is at the forefront of Australia's exciting neo-folk movement. He writes with a maturity beyond his years, his performance firmly grounded, his songs poetic and wistful. As a live performer he demands our attention with the seriousness and gravity of his material. He follows in the footsteps of Bob Dylan, Richard Thompson and others from that golden era of folk and fills those shoes admirably.”
Anne McCue, 2008
now and then an artist comes along that blows you away, Jordie Lane is one such artist. On "Lovers Ride”, Jordie proves he is fast becoming one of our finest singer songwriters
Colin Fielding 3INR Melbourne
“Outstanding writer man. This country needs to have some culture brought into it. Jordie Lane is one out of the box.”
Lloyd Spiegal,
Blues Guitarist
"A truly amazing artist, emotive songwriter and performer. Jordie Lane writes
the songs you wish you had written. Flaws me every time!"
Jaimi Faulkner (2007)
“A quality songwriter… he will make a profound mark on the Australian musical landscape” David Bridie
“Lane touched listeners with his earnest tales of love and loss, and humbled us with his gentle demeanor…capturing all with the raw emotion of his performance” Beat Magazine, 28/3/07
“Exceptionally talented singer and guitarist” The Chaser
“With his smoky graveled voice and fine guitar playing, Lane does a great line in natural charm” Lily Bragge, The Age
“If Ryan Adams ‘Love is Hell’ was wandering down an alleyway, and was seduced by Bob Dylan’s ‘Blood on the Tracks’, Jordie Lane’s music would be the illegitimate child”
Dave Bushell
WEDNESDAY: JORDIE LANE @ BAR OPEN (CACTUS)
The minute I get upstairs, I realise they're playing 'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance' on the big screen with the sound turned down. This is a film I studied when I was at uni and I could hear John Wayne in my head saying, "Duuuude." Not like Keanu Reeves, but.
Anyway, the two supports were a little dull, but Jordie and his full band made you wanna git yer boot scooters on and howl at the moon or something. It's that kind of country blues you just know might break your heart, but will ultimately soothe your soul, a little rough, but it's what makes it all the more sublime. He's got some gigs coming up in the lead up to the Port Fairy Folk Festival, so search him out

Melbourne’s Jordie Lane announces the release of his much anticipated debut album Sleeping Patterns, released on 12 June 2009.
After four years brewing in the sub-conscious of Jordie’s mind, the record eventually came to fruition in the winter of 2008. Recorded live in little more than five days in the open warehouse space called Adelphia in Melbourne, Sleeping Patterns is a raw and gutsy, but also at times fragile and dark collection of tales that cannot be put simply onto one particular shelf.
With the assistance of a Vic Rocks Recording Grant, Jordie was able to have the imaginative minds of renowned roots artist Jeff Lang and the pop sensibilities of Tim Hall on board to co-produce the album, with their trusty engineer Mick Wordley behind the console. Jeff and Tim’s approach was to build a sonic landscape that hung around each song and in particular Jordie’s words always at the core.
Over the past few years he has become a much talked about up-and-comer by the press and punters alike. Much of this would be attributed to his tireless dedication to playing live shows and festivals, but also his collaboration with Canadian songwriter Tracy McNeil under the guise Fireside Bellows, who are still receiving stunning accolades for the 2008 release No Time To Die.
With his unique finger-style guitar, blues harmonica and a commanding voice, Jordie’s love for American folk, blues and country music such as Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, Hank Williams and Gillian Welch are evident in his sound. But he’s not trying to re-hash anything. He’s telling his stories, about his experiences. And he does so with a remarkable sense of clarity and awareness considering he is only 24 years old.
The release of EPs Ill Communication (2005) and Lovers Ride (2006) saw the talented musician receive extensive local airplay, play several extensive Australian tours, sell out several shows at the Spiegeltent, and play a stand out performance at Port Fairy Folk Festival. Jordie has also supported major touring acts Loudon Wainwright III, Gotye, Jeff Lang, and Kate Miller Heidke and Alex Lloyd. This has all helped cement his place in a new breed of artists who once again believe primarily, in the power of a good song.

"The millionth roots revival continues at a steady pace in Melbourne with this often-astonishing debut from young blues/folk singer Jordie Lane, still only 24 years old. The record was produced and mentored by local blues elder statesman Jeff Lang, who also plays in the band with drummer Ashley Davies and sometime Jet keyboard player Steve Hesketh. Lane wrote these songs over four years and recorded the album in five days in a Fitzroy warehouse, yet despite his tender years he projects a lovely world-weary, old-time wisdom; a song such as "War Rages On" seems to draw on experiences gained from a troubled life well lived - the song writing here aspires to the anecdotal, literate insights of a Bruce Springsteen or a Don Walker".

"Young man, old soul. Jordie Lane is in his early 20s, but he sounds like an old-school troubadour, a man with a million stories to tell. His debut solo album follows two EPs, and an album as part of the duo Fireside Bellows. Producers Jeff Lang and Tim Hall provide a wonderful simplicity, allowing Lane's voice to shinw. He sings: "When your lights won't turn on and you're left in the darkness and your mid starts to race headlong into loneliness..." File next to Brendan Welsh's similarly impressive debut album, The Gleamer".

"Having spent the past four years building a reputation as an emerging folk talent, Jordie Lane's debut album may well come to be regarded as one of the most assured ever by a local artist. Displaying the soulful tenderness of Ron Sexsmith and Ray LaMontagne, and imbuing it with a fine appreciation of American country and folk, opener "The Publican's Daughter" demonstrates Lane's talent for storytelling. It is, however, the album's more tender moments that leave the hairs on your neck standing to attention. "I Could Die Looking At You" is one such number - quintessentially Australian, courtesy of its Banjo Patterson references, but Lane's gentle finger picking and intimate vocals lend it a sombre grace that is universal. "Fell Into Me", meanwhile, proves he's equally adept at conjuring a soulful, full-bodied band work-out that rocks. Produced by Jeff Lang and Tim hall, Sleeping Patterns is a rare treat".

"One of the most assured debut albums by a Melbourne singer-songwriter in recent memory, Jordie Lane's songwriting and voice are underpinned by a maturity that bellies his age. Lane, 25, promised much on last year's collaboration with Canadian songwriter Tracy McNeil under the moniker Fireside Bellows but here he delivers on all 13 songs. Co-produced by Jeff Lang and Tim Hall, a Vic Rocks recording grant enabled him to hire stellar local musicians to embellish the album with horns, Hammond organ and banjo. Lane is an old-fashioned storyteller. His raw and intimate yarns range from a cautionary tale in THe Publicans Daughter to a stunning, melancholy travelogue in Vietman in Walking That Way, which like many songs here, was inspired by his dreams. The stories have local flavour, featuring Clancy of the Overflow and a Northcote busket. His commanding voice recalls Loudon and Rufus Wainwright and Jeff Tweedy but it is his own and he always controls it. Exciting times from a vanguard of Melbourne singer songwriters that includes Downhills Home, Van Walker, Matt Joe Gow and Brendan Welch".
