Joris Teepe Quartet
Joris Teepe- contrabass & composer

Several great bassists in Jazz came from Europe (Dave Holland, George Mraz, NHOP, Miroslav Vitous), but Joris Teepe is the first European musician from The Netherlands to be able to make it in New York. Arriving in New York in 1992 with just his bass and a suitcase, he quickly met many musicians, started to work a lot and a year later he recorded his first CD, co-led by Don Braden and featuring Cyrus Chestnut, Carl Allen and Tom Harrell. From that point everything really took of for Joris and he became a bassist in great demand and he has been working with the "who is who in Jazz" from Benny Golson to Randy Brecker to Rashied Ali. Joris now has recorded 8 albums as a leader. He also established himself as a composer, record producer (many different labels and artists), educator (director of Jazz Studies at the Hanze University) and bandleader.T
The cooperation between Joris Teepe & Don Braden is been strong for 15 years. They can be heard on together on 14 CD's. They also composed and arranged together for many different projects, for example for Queen Beatrix in the Netherlands and for Bill Cosby in the USA. Besides giving many perfomances they also give much of their time to jazz education. They teach at several Summercamps, such as the Jamey Aebersold Summercamp and Don is the director of the Litchfield Summercamp in Connecticut, Joris is the director at the Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen.
Don Braden's first major break came when he took over Branford Marsalis place in the Wynton Marsalis Quintet in 1989. After that he performed with Freddie Hubbard, Tom Harrell, Betty Carter and many others..
David Berkman has worked with Dave Douglas, Dick Oatts, Tom Harrell and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. He is recording for Palmetto and won several awards as a composer.
Gene Jackson is mostly know from playing with Herbie Hancock for 9 years, he also played with Dave Holland, Christian McBride and Wayne Shorter.
This groups can be heard on the CD "Going Dutch" (Twinz Records) which also features Randy Brecker. This group has been featured guests with the North Netherlands Symphony in October 2007 performing exclusively compositions by Joris Teepe arranged by Joris, Don Braden and Andy Farber.
