The Craftsman -
Joseph Hart is an accomplished musician and craftsman. As a self-taught guitarist from at nine years of age, Joseph has enjoyed writing and performing music for more than three decades. -
Joseph’s first foray into crafting guitars was at the young age of 15 when he built his first electric guitar. Then, in 1999, he began honing his skills in the delicate, precision trade of creating acoustic guitars. -
Drawing from his simple appreciation for the lyrical sound of the guitar and his natural talent for fine art and sculpting, Joseph’s transition into building guitars was effortless. This appreciation and skill has now evolved into a flourishing business of handcrafting unique, melodic steel-string acoustic guitars. -
The Craft -
Hart Guitars offer musicians a desirable blend of warm tones with scintillating highs. Each guitar has great sustain and volume, providing players with the broadest range of musical capabilities. -
Each guitar is customized to the tastes and requirements of the musician. Most body types are possible, including cutaways, as Joseph employs his hands and eyes to obtain the greatest symmetry of form. -
Only the finest, solid woods are used in Hart Guitars. Backs and sides are constructed from Indian Rosewood, Mahogany, Maple and Cocobolo just to name a few. Tops are crafted with Sitka or Engleman Spruce. And inlays are designed with Pearl and Abalone. -
Hart Guitars are finished with a water-based lacquer over a shellac sealer, relatively indistinguishable from the more common nitrocellulose lacqer and much more environmentally friendly. The necks have an oil finish, which allows for smooth and non-stick playability. -
As a highly skilled Luthier with a fine-tuned love and appreciation for the stringed instrument, every guitar Joseph creates is an artistic expression of the craftsman himself. The result is a finely crafted guitar that provides the player with superior sound and optimum enjoyment. -
Other Services -
While his current focus is on building acoustic and electric guitars, Joseph also plans to expand his craft to include other stringed instruments such as arched top guitars and mandolins. -
In addition to guitar making, Joseph provides repair services for all stringed instruments including those of the violin family.
