That's MR. Haydn to you.
Well..of course I'm not the man himself. He was born on April first, 1732. In a quote to his biographer, he said, "I was born on 1 April, and that is the date found in my father's Hausbuch - but my brother Michael maintains I was born on the 31st of March because he doesn't want it said that I came into the world as an April fool".
There's a really good biography of Haydn here:
How are you? I'm fine. My CD is almost ready, but until then... ...I send you this live-performance video for your listening-pleasure. Hope you'll enjoy. Let me know what you think.
Not from the stars do I my judgment pluck, And yet methinks I have astronomy; But not to tell of good or evil luck, Of plagues, of dearths, or seasons' quality; Nor can I fortune to brief minutes tell, Pointing to each his thunder, rain, and wind, Or say with princes if it shall go well By oft predict that I in heaven find.
But from thine eyes my knowledge I derive, And, constant stars, in them I read such art As truth and beauty shall together thrive If from thyself to store thou wouldst convert: Or else of thee this I prognosticate, Thy end is truth's and beauty's doom and date.
