THE STORY
2009 marks a decade of songwriting for Josephine Grace, 24, and is set to be the year for this flourishing unsigned artist to release her long-awaited self- penned and produced debut album “High Time”.
With a voice described as sweet, delicate yet powerful, soulful and unique, teamed with serious songwriting talent and an endearing presence – Josephine Grace has a lot to offer you, the music listener.
“I write honestly and simply, nothing fancy, just whatever is real to me. I think of my writing as a vital process of expressing myself. It’s often where I find my thoughts, feelings, passions and convictions turn into something clear and concrete. And there’s something about sharing it out loud, it makes a connection.”
Soaking in every musical opportunity (including attaining Grade 8 flute) during her introverted childhood in North-West England, Josephine gained a great foundation in both classical and contemporary music, instrumental and vocal music. She also found a passion for God, making her first major life decision, aged 13 - to become at Christian. Finishing her A Levels, at 18, brought Josephine to her second major decision point, at which she chose to focus her attention on contemporary singing and songwriting.
At 21, after successfully completing a year-long artist development training course, followed by training (and continuing) to be a singing/songwriting workshop facilitator, and subsequently becoming involved in church music as a worship leader, Josephine started a new phase of her artistic life as a music artist.
Her first step was becoming a student of top Liverpool vocal coach, Tracey Carmen. Next, Josephine gained valuable performance experience, winning battle-of-the-bands competition Streetwaves 07 (St Helens area), giving her opportunity to play some of the most prestigious local and UK festivals; Eclectica, Creamfields and Mathew Street Festival – joined for acoustic numbers by her brother, Matt Potts (guitar).
From 2007 onwards local radio and newspaper coverage has followed Josephine’s progress, as have many avid supporters on both MySpace and YouTube. And after taking time out in 2008 for her big, white wedding to high school maths teacher David Wilcock, she kicked off 2009 in style by joining new online talent contest NooStar - ranking highly in the video performance charts week on week, and hitting the number 1 spot in February!
Most recently Josephine auditioned for Liverpool Talent Search, made it though the Final in May (by placing in the top 5) at Liverpool’s St Georges Hall, giving her a place in the North-West Talent Search Grand Final this November. She is also currently finishing off the final songs for her soulful pop-r&b debut album “High Time” – to be released towards the end of 2009!
“This is an important step for me, it’s taken a long time to get here. This collection of songs is very personal, it’s my story, I’ve put so much into it. It’s my expression of who I am and who I’ve been. I’ll be relieved to get it out there, and then I’m just going to wait and see what projects open up, consider working with other producers, maybe change direction completely - whatever door God opens!”
“To you, the listener – thanks for the support! Keep in touch, Jos x”
