   About Jo Serrapere
Jo Serrapere (sarah-pear), a songwriter from the Detroit area, started playing guitar at 23 when seeking out lessons from Delta Blues guitarist, Shari Kane. Shortly thereafter, Jo began writing her own songs while completing her college studies in clinical psychology. She is currently taking time off from touring and playing mostly local gigs while completing her new cd. Whether recreating old songs from the Mississippi Delta or performing songs in her own confessional style, Jo's music stands original while always reflecting her love of American roots music. Her eclectic writing and performance fuses elements of various modern and traditional folk music, old-time and electric blues styles, roots rock, garage surf, swing, hot jazz and alt-country. Jo and WDs have performed twice on NPR's "A Prairie Home Companion" and have been featured on Dave Marsh's Sirius Radio program, "Kick out the Jams." Jo, along with songwriter K.C. Groves, was the founding member of the all-female old-time group, Uncle Earl. Jo still performs with her band, the Willie Dunns (John Devine, Jef Reynolds and Stuart Tucker) who brings added depth and musical styling to Jo's original songs as well as classics from such artists as Mississippi John Hurt, Bessie Smith and Tom Waits. She also sings in the a capella group, Lorelei who performed at Superbowl XL, and recently has started a project called Stella! featuring Jen Sygit and Tamineh Gueramy.

"I might take a train, I might take a plane, but if I have to walk, I know I'm gonna see Jo Serrapere again. Like anybody else who might make you laugh and cry in the same song, she's too good to pass up."

- Dave Marsh, music critic, Author of Born to Run: The Bruce Springsteen Story and former editor of Creem & Rolling Stone magazines

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)

"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff

Time to Stop Using the Detroit Incinerator & Support the New Business Model for Detroit Solid Waste

Detroit's Solid Waste future is on the line — Mayor Dave Bing can either support the New Business Model for Detroit Solid Waste, materials recovery and the economic development, or he can "stay the course with incineration."

    Take Action NOW!

Urge Mayor Bing to support the New Business Model for Detroit Solid Waste, which has a solid waste budget that is $1.7M less than that approved by City Council and has no incineration. Recycling generates more jobs and economic activity than incineration, and is less costly in the long run.

The best business, and less pollution, for Detroit Solid Waste is the New Business Model. Please take action today!
