  • Bio

I know this is where one is supposed to hire a publicist to wax a bunch of poetic BS in third person about how great an artist is. I'm not going to do that but just let you know what I do and why. I was born in Southern Indiana in March 1975 and tried to independently telephone order my first guitar lessons from a Roy Acuff TV commercial at age 3. Needless to say I feel that if I was born to do anything it is write and perform. I have been playing regularly since age 12 and moved to Kentucky permanently at age 18- Richmond Kentucky- originally, and have been lucky enough to play with what I feel are some of the most talented and earnestly good people and musicians anywhere. I have played with the Fosters, My Plastic Joy, Hello Records artists the Union City All Stars, Able Danger, and with The Trustees of Modern Chemistry and also currently play drums for Slark Martyr. I have always liked the comfort of being backed up by a band and never thought myself a "singer-songwriter" but at this juncture in life feel it is time to test those waters as my musical inspirations and interests sometimes change like the weather. I like art and artists who are real (you know who you are) and people who are real. I hate American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, and most other television programming for that matter. I love Charles Bukowski, George Carlin and Bill Hicks. My songs run from pokes at myself to the vehement anger I feel towards the world today. I am not an optimist- I am a realist. I like to laugh at myself and everyone else. I like songs that hurt and songs borne of true desperation. I feel that is both the dicotomy and duality of the truly tortured artist, but most often produces the most gutteral and muse-invoked works. I don't want to live forever and I don't want to sell a million records. I would like for you to listen to my craft and give it a chance. Please feel free to let me know what you think. My self recorded solo record, "Lies That Lead to Gold" should be finished and released later this year, hopefully by fall. Stay tuned to my site for songs from it and to purchase it upon its completion. Thanks for your time. Josh Atkins
