I grew up right here in Fort Worth, Texas. Fort Worth is home to many legendary blues venues and musicians, and I was very fortunate to spend my early years studying blues, rock, and jazz guitar under one the finest blues guitarists in the state, Dave Millsap. Dave has toured and recorded with some of the world’s most renowned musicians, including Bonnie Raitt, Albert Collins, and Delbert McClinton, and received a Grammy nomination for his work on Delbert’s 1989 album, Live in Austin. Dave used let me share the stage with him on occasion at local blues joints when I was barely in high school, and from then on I was hooked on playing music.
In 1999, I spent a year in Oxford, Mississippi, attending Ole Miss and performing country, bluegrass, and southern rock with singer/songwriter Ken Edwards. In 2000 I relocated to Austin. Beginning as a solo artist, I put together a weekly jam session with local musicians at a University of Texas campus bar. These informal jams progressed rapidly, and sparked my first real band, a rock/jazz/jam band called Forty Thieves. We steadily gained momentum and logged over 100 shows annually in 2003 and 2004 all over the state as a full-fledged rock and roll outfit. We released our debut album, “I Don’t Owe You a Thing” in late 2004, and continued strong for another year or so. Forty Thieves gave our final performance in February of 2006 in Austin.
Next I went to work playing lead guitar for the Josh Brown Band. "Hold You Down", a song that I wrote, will be featured on their upcoming studio release. We quickly hit the road, performing all over the Texas hill country until, in October of 2006, I left the group to once again focus my efforts on my own material.
Currently, I am performing and writing in Fort Worth, Texas. I recently had the privilege of spending time in the studio with Texas legend John Nitzinger. I've got a great new band together, featuring Rick Rigsby on the bass, Marc Gulley on the drums, and Caleb Keeter on the lead guitar. We're all hard at work on a new album entitled "House in the Hills", which I expect to release later this summer. On nights off from the JDB, you may also catch me sitting in with some very talented musicians that I am lucky to call friends, including Stephen Pointer, Austin Barker, and John Zascoda here in Fort Worth, as well Ryan Read and Tibaut Bowman down in Austin. Thanks for stopping by my page, and I hope to see you at a show soon.
