Having recieved great reviews over the years by publications such as: Country Standard Time, Dallas Morning News, Living Blues, Blues Review, Austin Chronicle,etc....2005 was a great year for Josh as he became a Grammy Award Nominated Songwriter. Josh Davis has once again put out a new CD and is back on the road. With a four piece band, the material is the best he's done in years. From in your face uptempo songs to slow ballads with the steel guitar that makes you cry. These guys play it all convincingly. The songs are real! Nothing generic here. Everything you hear, Josh lived it. Check these guys out on the road.
Josh Davis:
Born: February 25, 1975 in Ft. Worth, Texas.
I grew up in the average middle-class home, played sports went to church, etc. As a direct response of the huge media blitz of Van Halen in 1984, I developed my first real interest in guitar. After asking in vain for about 3 years I got one for christmas in 1987. I was a fast learner and am completely self-taught.
I formed my first working band, Viola Swamp, a couple of year's later. Played all the Deep Ellum and Ft. Worth bars. My first real gig was at the infamous Joe's Garage when I was 15. It was there I got to open for legendary acts like the U.K.Subs.
I became very interested in blues guitar around age 17 and quit my Metal band to play the blues. I spent the next 6 or so years relearning my instrument by watching and performing with many of the DFW area's blues great's, guys like Hash Brown, Holland K. Smith and the late great Robert Ealey.
I put out a demo tape around '94, cut a CD with Ft. Worth's Johnny Mack in '96 and traveled across the south a bit. In 1998 I recorded a CD for Topcat Records, then traveled around the south some more. I've played with and met many of the finest musicians around. I performed on the PBS special Texas Music Cafe, which has aired in many countries to several million people. After 1 year of working that record and recording a follow up with a 10-piece band that I've yet to release, I simply got tired of being a band leader. To simplify: a band owner, not a band member.
I was finding myself listening to the old country guitar greats like Don Rich and Roy Nichols. That's when I met up with Dave Mitchell and Mike Cox and we got Speedtrucker rolling. I joined Speedtrucker in Oct '99 and stayed with the band untill it's demise in Jan 2006. While in Speedtrucker I toured across the south , west and the mid-west for several years. Played alot of amazing shows, opening for Waylon Jennings was a specific highpoint. I also took some time to play many shows in South America under my own name.
