Having recieved great reviews over the years by publications such as: Country Standard Time, Dallas Morning News, Living Blues, Blues Review, Austin Chronicle,etc....2005 was a great year for Josh as he became a Grammy Award Nominated Songwriter. Josh Davis has once again put out a new CD and is back on the road. With a four piece band, the material is the best he's done in years. From in your face uptempo songs to slow ballads with the steel guitar that makes you cry. These guys play it all convincingly. The songs are real! Nothing generic here. Everything you hear, Josh lived it. Check these guys out on the road.
Josh Davis:
Born: February 25, 1975 in Ft. Worth, Texas.
I grew up in the average middle-class home, played sports went to church, etc. As a direct response of the huge media blitz of Van Halen in 1984, I developed my first real interest in guitar. After asking in vain for about 3 years I got one for christmas in 1987. I was a fast learner and am completely self-taught.
I formed my first working band, Viola Swamp, a couple of year's later. Played all the Deep Ellum and Ft. Worth bars. My first real gig was at the infamous Joe's Garage when I was 15. It was there I got to open for legendary acts like the U.K.Subs.
I became very interested in blues guitar around age 17 and quit my Metal band to play the blues. I spent the next 6 or so years relearning my instrument by watching and performing with many of the DFW area's blues great's, guys like Hash Brown, Holland K. Smith and the late great Robert Ealey.
I put out a demo tape around '94, cut a CD with Ft. Worth's Johnny Mack in '96 and traveled across the south a bit. In 1998 I recorded a CD for Topcat Records, then traveled around the south some more. I've played with and met many of the finest musicians around. I performed on the PBS special Texas Music Cafe, which has aired in many countries to several million people. After 1 year of working that record and recording a follow up with a 10-piece band that I've yet to release, I simply got tired of being a band leader. To simplify: a band owner, not a band member.
I was finding myself listening to the old country guitar greats like Don Rich and Roy Nichols. That's when I met up with Dave Mitchell and Mike Cox and we got Speedtrucker rolling. I joined Speedtrucker in Oct '99 and stayed with the band untill it's demise in Jan 2006. While in Speedtrucker I toured across the south , west and the mid-west for several years. Played alot of amazing shows, opening for Waylon Jennings was a specific highpoint. I also took some time to play many shows in South America under my own name.
I then toured relentlessly for Casino ( my first release) And also as the lead guitarist for The Bastard Sons Of Johnny Cash. Now with the new release of ," Fighting For Last Place" in 2008 Josh is looking to tour 200 dates relentlessly again.
hey dude!!! :0) flight is delayed :o( so we arrive at like 1. I'll call you when I get in. I bet if you leave when we land we will get there at the same time... Maybe. See you soon
My momma always told me to stay away from boys like you
She said they would only make me blue
I never do as I am told
I'll worry about hurt and pain when I am old
Livin through the bottle
Lovin through the night
Cryin through the pain
And off to do it again
(Haha)
I was feeling great until I got woke up by the Arlington PD at 3 this morning because my stupid 17 yr. old son wrecked my car. He was looking for his cell phone instead of watching the road, PLUS he missed his curfew by two hours. The reason I have been in pain is because I have 3 ruptured disks in my neck, another one bulging and another one protruding. I am getting shots in my neck into my spine every other week to help repair the damage and it is helping. It was either that or surgery. Thanks for asking! How are you?! What part of Fort Worth are you living in?
that new record remains stuck in my cd player, well the premastered CDR version does, anyhow! it's between you and gleason for my favorite albums of 2008, goddam it just absolutely kicks ass from top to bottom, congratulations, you deserve a medal for this one! talk soon, lemme know when yer gonna be in austin.
