****Instead of doing the typical "Favorite Movies", I've listed a whole bunch of really good "Gay" movies that are totally worth checking out. For those of you who thought 'Brokeback Mountain' was the best movie since Oz, well... you should know that there are alot better 'gay themed' movies out there, that aren't pornos, aren't weird, aren't dirty... but instead, unique, often independant, clever, cute, romatic, and all around fabulous movies that just don't get the attention they deserve... so with no further ado, here's my list. Have some suggestions to add?
C.R.A.Z.Y.
I just rented this one, here's the review I wrote for netflix:
I was blown away. I needed a movie to remind me how much I LOVE netflix, and this was it! I can't see myself finding this in any video store around here! What a powerful film, with amazing performances!
I couldn't figure out that it was supposed to be in Canada, at first I thought there was a foreign film made in America...but that didn’t matter. I haven’t been so involved in a movie in a long time.
You get over the subtitles fast, but pay attention, there are several scenes that if you miss that :30, you miss allot. Many of those scenes require that you fill in a bit more in your head... which is refreshing, to actually use my imagination here and there.
I can't relate allot to this movie in my own life, but I still feel apart of them. A great experience. Great movie.
I Think I Do
Ever have that crush on that certain someone in college? Your straight, but good friend who you’d love to just make it with… Well, this is the story… But here, a little way down the road, that certain college friend comes back for the boy… he’s gay now!?
Hard Pill
Would you take a pill to make you straight if you could? The lead character is faced with this after years of trying to make it in the gay world, he signs up for an experimental drug that could make him straight. This one ends up with a very unpredictable, but positive moral.
As luck would have it
An older gay man in a relationship is assigned to a foster child… this very elite man has spent a long time keeping his life a secret, and now he has to make it all work out.
Get Your Stuff
A very well to do middle-aged gay couple (they’re really hot though) want to adopt… they wanted a baby, but instead are assigned to two problem children. Madness ensues.
Jackass: Number Two
The Devil Wears Prada
Dorian Blues
Adam & Steve
The Mostly Unfabulous Social Life of Ethan Green
Poster Boy
Touch of Pink
Food of Love
Circuit
Y Tu Mama Tambien
Mysterious Skin
No, not a porno… rather an amazingly powerful tale staring Joseph Levitt from ‘3rd rock from the sun’ – yeah, total hottie. Anyway, he plays the lead role of a boy who at a young and tender age was corrupted by his baseball coach who made him a little more than a friend. Between two boys that the film follows, their lives spin more and more out of control and the mysteries of what a happened to their childhood are the root of every problem. A great movie to engulf yourself in, and I forgot what time it was. Oh, and Joseph has some pretty nearly naked scenes too.
Boys Briefs 2
This is a collection of gay short films. Non of them are pornography, but some do have some pretty scandals love scenes. Either way, each film is only about 5 minutes long, and there is some pretty creative creations. Independent filmmaking at its best.
To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything!
If you want to know anything about how to be fabulous… this is the movie. And you get to watch Patrick Swayze in drag… he pulls it off! A definite classic.
The Journey of Jared Price
This is an independent film which I came across on the Netflix. If I had to choose one of my most recent favorite gay movies about “coming of age” this would be the one. Jared is a young guy who moves out to LA to… well, for whatever reason you would move to LA. The movie does not have any special effects, and it was all shot on Digital Video… but it tells a great story, as Jared befriends and old women, and her son seduces him (Oh yeah, the son is like twice Jared’s age!). By the way, the boy who plays Jared is hhhhaaautttt!
Broken Hearts Club
This above all, is a must see. Anyone talking about gay-genre movies, will bring this movie up in conversation. Lots of big names, and recognizable faces. You’ll love this one.
Queer as Folk
The entire series, available on DVD, its awesome. It goes without saying that QAF is quite possibly the best gay-themed TV series of all time.
Boys Life
These are a series of gay-themed short films from the independent circuit. All of them have had some sort of award from the film-festivals. I highly recommend these series of DVD’s, each with several movies on them that range in length. Many are very powerful stories; others are just a little silly.
Beautiful Thing
A British movie about two boys who fall in love in London. When I finished watching this movie, I didn’t want to go back to real life… it left me all tingly and happy. A great love story.
When Boys Fly
If you were ever apart of, or wondered what the life of those super hottt club boys was like, this is your movie. It is more of a documentary that follows around several ‘mo’s who go to those huge parties that travel all around the country. Chaos ensues as drugs rule, and all the boys are hott and horny. No nudity I know of.
Saved!
A hilarious movie for anyone who knows or was or is religious the Christian religion. The movie pokes fun, but I wouldn’t say that it really is offensive, but I suppose that’s up to you. I wouldn’t necessarily label this as a “gay themed” movie, but it makes the list non-the less. Being slightly more mainstream, more of your friends will know what you’re talking about when you ask if they’ve seen it. You’ll be thanking Jesus for everything by the time you’re done.
Elephant
Woof… This one will leave you so heavy in your chair, you can’t move. This is a fictional story about a normal school in a normal city with normal kids. It follows several perspectives that all lead into one another until two crazed students decide to shoot up the entire school. It is fictional, but parallels any of those school shooting stories. It is on this list only because of its significance to our life and our society. This is a must see for anyone.
L.I.E.
Confused in life, and lacking any kind of parental guidance, a young boy searches for answers. He is befriended by an old man, a man who is old… an old man who likes young boys. But surprisingly becomes good friends with the boy and rather than molest him, becomes a valued friend. I didn’t have much faith in this one, but it turned out to be extremely meaningful and touch briefly on a deep inter psychology that we all have with our fathers.
Cowboys & Angels
This one comes from the Brits, and is the tale of two young men who become flat-mates (that is roommates to us Americans). One straight, one gay. You can guess who the fabulous dresser and decorator is. The straight one learns a lot from the gay one, and a deep friendship develops. This one may just be a good old story of friendship, but a good one non-the less.
Issues 101
Nearly approaching porn level, this movie is not, I repeat not, of any significance what-so-ever. To be honest, I don’t know how it ever got released in the first place. Its barely of any quality at all… But what it does do, is play out a fantasy that all of us young gay men think of… hot frat boys, and what they do to one another. Mmm mm.
David Searching
Anthony Rapp is the star of this fantastic story that is nearly a pre-qual to his role in the play/movie “RENT”… although the story, nor the writers have nothing to do with one another, Rapp plays the role of David, a poor, starving filmmaker trying to start out his career and life in the Big Apple. He seeks a new roommate, who becomes his fag-hag, and David’s search for life ensues.
Cher: The Farewell Tour
I couldn’t resist. She’s a god!
Party Monster
This one is great for several reasons. First of all, Macaulay Culkin is the lead character. He plays the role of a real life person, Michael Alig, who was a ‘club kid’ back in the early 80s. Set in New York, Alig throws huge club parties and off the wall events where drugs and sex rule. Before there were corporations, before there were rules, there was the club kids. This is a great story, again, based on a true story…and is a must see. There is also an actual documentary version of this movie if you like this one.
But I'm a Cheerleader
Can gay people be converted back to straightness? A girl is locked up and a conversion camp, and hilarity ensues as the camp attempts to convert a whole bunch of dirty homosexuals. Its great.
The Trip
When 19-year-old gay-rights activist Tommy and 24-year-old Alan first meet in 1973, they find themselves on the opposite sides of the political coin. Despite their many differences, they form a loving long-term relationship. In 1977, during Anita Bryant's crusade, an anti-gay book Alan wrote years before gets published without his consent. The book destroys Tommy's credibility as a well-known activist, resulting in Tommy and Alan's break-up. Seven years later, Alan is given a second chance, a reunion with Tommy and the opportunity to set things right.

About me: This was a for-fun video I did probably over 15 years ago now when I was just starting in TV... Its called "An Eggs Life"
This is a story I did for the station I work at about the steam engine running at the Duluth Depot... I sorta volunteered on my own to make the video and spent 3 full days on it, 2 shooting (2 9 hour days of shooting) and another 9 hour day of editing. I hope you enjoy!
Who I'd like to meet: Hrm... who knows exactly what anyone would like to meet. I've found from my years on this planet that opposites often attract, and the people you think you're most alike, aren't.
I like fun-lovers. Mostly drama free, but I like a little gossip in life. Mostly like the easy going sorts who are willing to brush little things off and not go crazy about stupid shit.
