Josh Hoag
Upright and electric bass Josh Hoag, a native of Dayton, OH, discovered his true calling in life in 1991 after a brief flirtation with the electric guitar. After spending his formative years playing rock, he discovered jazz and classical music, which led to a Bachelor of Music in Performance degree at Miami University under esteemed double bass instructor Stephen Ullery.
Proficient and experienced in nearly all 20th-century American musical styles- Rock, Jazz, Blues, R&B, Bluegrass, Country & Western, Rockabilly, and Americana, Hoag has found his musical home in Austin.
After years of touring with the Asylum Street Spankers (God's Favorite Band), King of Nerdabilly’s Crazy Joe & his Mad River Outlaws and Bluegrass Legend Frank Wakefield, he’s currently performing with Seth Walker (www.sethwalker.com).
When Hoag has time off from the road he's been seen slapping, plucking, bowing and spinning his bass with Two High String Band, Continental Graffiti, the Sieker Band, Sick’s Pack, the Jazz Pharaohs, Aunt Ruby’s Sweet Jazz Babies, Leo Rondeau, Aubrey Slackey.
Hoag has performed on stage (not opened) with Delbert McClinton, Gary Nicholson, Petty Booka, White Ghost Shivers, Mad Tea Party, Cindy Cashdollar, Elana James, Ralph Carney, Alan Munde, David Long, Guy Forsyth, Dave Biller, Stanley Smith, Benny Peters, Warren Hood, Ephraim Owens, Red Young, Erik Hokkanen, Brennen Leigh, Mark Hayes, and Bobby Trimble...
