  • Bio

Versatile singer-songwriter Josh Kear wields a sympathetic eye and keen awareness that color his compositions. Whether tapping in to the misgivings of a devoted suitor or inhabiting the fury of a scorned lover, Kear reveals candid moments of hilarity, pain and longing. Josh Kear scored phenomenal success with Lady Antebellum’s hit single, "Need You Now," the title track of the trio’s sophomore album. After spending 5 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Country charts, the hit crossed over to pop radio, where it peaked at #2 on Billboard’s Top 40 chart, placed #1 for 9 weeks on the Adult Pop chart and held #1 on Adult Contemporary for an incredible 15 weeks. “Need You Now” placed into more than 15 Billboard charts, stretching from Country Songs to Dance/Club Play Songs and appearing in the Hot 100 in Canada, Europe and Japan. The single has currently achieved quadruple-platinum status; selling over 4 million digital downloads. "Need You Now" earned 2 GRAMMY Awards at the 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards in February of 2011. In addition to the GRAMMYs - Song of the Year & Best Country Song - the song won the 2009 Academy of Country Music Award for Song of the Year, was named the 2010 ASCAP Country Song Of The Year, and was featured in the 2011 Superbowl Sunday episode of FOX's hit show Glee Kear garnered a Grammy Award for Carrie Underwood's rendition of his scathing anthem, "Before He Cheats." The hit roosted atop the Billboard Country chart for five weeks, and went on to earn 2007 ASCAP Country Song of the Year honors, along with nominations for Single and Song of the Year at both the 2006 ACM and CMA Awards. Co-written with friend Chris Tompkins, "Before He Cheats" crossed over onto MTV and VH1, snagged top 5 slots in both the Adult Contemporary and Top 40 charts, and secured the People's Choice Award for Best Country Song of the Year. The list of stars who have recorded tunes penned by Kear includes Garth Brooks, Jimmy Buffett, Tim McGraw, Gary Allan, Martina McBride and up-and-comers Gloriana. The songwriter's soothing voice, melodic knack and uncanny instinct leave no doubt that the list will only grow longer.

  • Influences

Standing on the shoulders of the same giants as pretty much everyone (Springsteen, Dylan, Beatles, Jackson Browne, Eagles, Petty, Motown, oldies, my god this could be a long list). If it made it to one of the music hall of fames in Nashville or Cleveland - I have probably studied, poured over, danced to, played, sung or driven far too fast to it enough that the influences are unavoidable. This ain't no vacuum we're living in! I'm just another grateful music lover...
