The Past
Josh McIntosh began performing original songs in San Francisco in 1992 at the age of 19. In the years following, he started an acoustic duo called Blew Willie and started performing at cafes and small venues all over the city. By 1996 Blew Willie had picked up a rhythm section and was operating as a four piece throughout Northern California. With Josh's powerful vocals and lightning fast acoustic guitar work, the band quickly developed a loyal fan base. Throughout the late 90's (having become a full six piece band), Blew Willie toured the western US delivering three hour sets and earning return spots at the High Sierra Music Festival, H.O.R.D.E, Marin Summer Music Festival, and headlining venues like Slims, House of Blues (Hollywood), and The Great American Music Hall. The music that come out of those years was featured in a full length motion picture (Around The Fire), used as the theme for the Woodstock reunion concert "A Day In The Garden," and received airplay on college radio as well as AAA stations like San Francisco's KFOG and Flagstaff AZ's The Eagle.
All In The Family
In 2000, Josh put away his guitar and moved north of the Golden Gate where he currently lives with his wife and 2 year old son. Since then he has contributed lyrics and vocals to San Francisco's livetronica sensation BLVD, adding 5 songs to their first two albums(BLVD and Before We See The Sun). Josh's brother Dylan is drummer/producer/founder. One of those tracks (Again In The Light) was picked up for use in an action sports film, "Perspectives". BLVD is one of the fastest growing live acts on the west coast, and Josh always looks forward to performing with them when schedules allow. This summer you can catch BLVD at Joshua Tree Festival, High Sierra, Harmony Fest, and more. If you like to dance, this is a group you do not want to miss. Josh's father, Denes, has also just finished his first solo release in more than 10 years (Diamonds In The Litter Box) which features guitars, mandolin and harmonica by Josh, and drums, percussion and hours of production work by Josh's brother, Dylan (BLVD, Blew Willie).
The Now
This year (2008) looks to be a very busy year for Josh McIntosh. He has picked up his acoustic guitar again, and is currently getting ready to record his first solo album. Look for some of the Bay Areas hottest players on this record. Release date is tentatively set for September of '08, along with accompanying solo acoustic versions to be released as part of the "Gratuitous Encore" series. Also in the works is "Scrambled Eggs For Breakfast (Songs For Kids And Other People)". Both of these projects, as well as "The Willie Years" (a remix of favorite Blew Willie songs) will be released on McIntosh's own From The Belly Music label.
Music From The Belly
Josh's music has been described as "full of energy, hope, heart, and guts."
Josh calls it "music from the belly"..."This was my fathers guitar. And someday it will belong to my son. In the meantime, I plan on putting at least a few more miles on it." May this ride last long.
