  • Bio

Joshua Bowlus started playing the piano at age five and was trained classically through high school, where he then developed a strong passion for jazz. He has since pursued an active music career as a pianist and keyboardist, and graduated from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville in 2006. Described as a modern jazz pianist with an old soul, Bowlus has always taken inspiration from music of various genres, including R&B, soul, gospel, rock, and latin music. "Joshua's intricate excursions are well-developed spontaneous compositions which show a remarkable level of maturity and musical intellect," states Rick Grant of Entertaining U. Joshua's music has taken him across the nation to perform at numerous jazz festivals and clubs, including notable venues such as The Jazz Corner in Hilton Head and Iridium Jazz Club in New York City. He has also performed abroad in France, Spain, and China. Bowlus has recorded with a variety of celebrated artists including tenor saxophonist John Ricci, electric bass prodigy Jon Reshard, fusion guitarist Greg Howe, and world-renowned drummer Dave Weckl. In addition, Bowlus is the pianist for The Jazz Conceptions Orchestra, a nonet originally comprised entirely of UNF graduates, whose self-titled album debuted in 2008. Additionally, he is the pianist for the newly formed Jacksonville-based sextet named the Jax Jazz Collective, who will be recording their debut album within the next year. Joshua plays actively along the east coast as the bandleader for his own trio and quartet. He is a regular accompanist and sideman as well for a number of jazz singers and other groups around the southeast, including such names as the Kelly/Scott Quintet, the St. Johns River City Band, Annie Sellick (based in Nashville), and Linda Cole. Currently, Bowlus is making plans to record his own debut album featuring his trio.

  • Jazz & Blues Florida - …

     Hello MySpace Friend!
Jazz & Blues Florida is bailing out of MySpace and focusing on our own websites and our Facebook network and we invite you to come join us at either or both. We don't have a Facebook business page yet, as it seems it is better to fully develop a personal page first, then migrate to business page, so come over to www.Facebook.com/JazzBluesFlorida and send in a friend request. I can't explain it, but the page comes up under my name, Charlie Boyer, but it is really us. AND, if you really want to connect to Florida's jazz & blues scene come check out our main site at www.JazzBluesFlorida.com and if you like what you see, shoot me an email and let me know  you want to sign up for our email list. You can opt for daily, weekly or monthly contact and change your mind at any time.  I am sure you understand the value of these connections and that nowadays providing that connection is your contribution to what keeps us going, like the money you used to spend on newspapers.  This is a one-time request and we hope you understand the seriousness of it, as we will be deleting your MySpace connection after we send this to you so we can keep track of making sure everyone received notice.  See you on the other side, where the good music is happening! Please excuse us if you are already over there, we had to do this as auto as possible due to the high number of friends we have to process.

We play mostly up towards your area (well - St. Augustine) and we're booked every weekend there through March.

I bought a Hammond. It's a 1961 in mint condition, but I no longer have room for it, so if you know anybody who needs one... jk

    Peace out Josh
    Take care
