A long-time super producer in the holy hip hop circle, Joshua, (formerly Jay tha Kid) breaks out of his co-starring role on many different projects, to let the world peak inside his life, his walk with God, and his story. Joshua; born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio was toted back and forth to church regularly by his father, Elder Leon James as a child all the way up through his teenage years. However it wasn’t until his father left Joshua in God’s hands and let him go, that he had his encounter with the Lord that would change the direction of his life forever.
With the encouragement of family and friends, as a junior in high school, Joshua visited Abundant Life Apostolic Church regularly. One pre-destined Sunday evening Joshua felt the conviction of the Lord and the need to seek salvation and the power of God’s spirit dwelling inside him and made the decision to accept Christ as his Lord and Savior. Since Joshua has joined the fold, his God-given musical talents have received a special anointing from the Lord. A gift is just a gift without the anointing. With the anointing it’s a tool designed for uplifting the kingdom of God.
Joshua first entered the gospel hip-hop scene when he was introduced to the EMI national recording artist k-Drama. He and k-Drama developed a friendship and bond that remains strong today, and Joshua credits k-Drama as an influential person that showed him the mechanics of music production. “Being a part of T.H.I.S. Click Records was a good experience for me, because there’s no doubt about it, k-Drama is one of the hardest working people in the industry, so for him to be my first example, it set the tone of what to expect throughout my career, and to know what it takes.” Said Joshua. Since Joshua began producing, he has made beats for artists such as, k-Drama, Theory Hazit, mTribs, Kaleb Starr, Deacon D.A.S., Bracey and has been a featured artist on numerous albums, mixtapes, and compilations.
With his new project, Joshua, shares with the church and the rest of the world, the testimony of someone who was “raised in the church with a little street involvement” as he says on the mixtape freestyle that swept the nation, “Recipe”. Fans all across the country can expect to also hear heartfelt pleas to turn away from sin like in the hit song “Let it Go” featuring Bracey where Joshua pours his heart out on a track about being stuck in sin. “I wanna get right; the Saint that I used to be” Joshua adds in “Let it Go”. With a star-studded list of guest appearances, the world sits on the edge of their seats, awaiting the release of Joshua’s debut album. Expect to be changed!
