About me:
With his hands in many projects, Joshua Adams Crilley certainly keeps busy and has garnered attention in various forms. On one hand, Josh, as a drummer has been playing since eight years old in everything from funk, jazz, rock, punk, reggae and classical groups. The most recent project Exchange Bureau formed in 2005 and is set to release their second album (with remixes from Alton Miller and Paul Randolph) and has attracted the attention of Gilles Peterson, Jazzanova, Simbad, Marc De Clive-Lowe, and Bugz in the Attic with its unique mix of live house, funk, and electronic sounds. They performed at Winter Music Conference '08, with two energetic sets including a disco boogie set with the legendary Leroy Burgess. The forthcoming "Spookie Dookie" (EXB Meets John Arnold) is to be released June 2008 on Third Ear Records as part of the Detroit Beatdown 2 compilation. Josh was was also a founding member of the Detroit-based live house group "Painted Pictures" that went on to release an album not only on Truth Manifest stateside, but also on P-Vine in Japan. They played mainstage at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2004 and have performed live sets with a crew of Detroiters like Amp Fiddler, Paul Randolph, Jeremy Ellis, John Arnold and Billy Love. On hand percussion, Joshua has performed from Miami to Chicago, and several years at the DEMF with Drum & Bass DJ Kruse Kontrol and Keith Worthy. He has also recorded percussion for Roy Davis Jr. and Waajeed (Platinum Pied Pipers). Joshua began DJing in 1999 and has taken his diverse influences in hand to develop a unique DJ set drawing from many different directions. He has been known to do everything from obscure, quirky house and broken beat, '80s breaks, old school funk, jazz and everything in between. He has held many residencies at various hot spots in Detroit over the years and performed at WMC in 2006 and 2007. In the past year, Joshua has honed his production skills. He has already produced an EP that will be released on the Exchange Bureau label in 2008, with everything from house, Bowie-esque '80s throwbacks, and afrobeat-driven funk. Public Media Group showcases Joshua's artistic and promotional talents. He has designed for many of the artists aforementioned, URB magazine, Rime magazine and many nightclubs, while also doing various digital and multi-media work including three-dimensional digital collages, vinyl sticker and paint on canvas, and works involving destroyed Detroit funk 45's. He continues to bridge the gap between art and music with his interpretation and involvement in both. On the promotional side, Josh has went on to successfully promote and book many various venues in Detroit with art/music showcases that have included talent like DJ Sneak, Alton Miller, Green Velvet, Mike Clark, Stacey Pullen and Questlove.
