Sounds cheesy- but all music! Everything I have ever heard comes into play when I'm singing or writing. From Stevie Wonder to George Strait. Garth Brooks to U2.
Quickly appearing among the names of today's top artists, Joshua Stevens has risen above his humble beginnings and poised himself to be a musical success. His passion and determination have mixed together to create one of the hottest new singer-songwriters in Nashville.
Josh was raised in Churchville, Iowa. After high school, Josh attended the University of Northern Iowa, where he obtained a performance scholarship for saxophone. Josh soon moved to California when he realized he had bigger dreams to fullfill.
While in California, Stevens broadened his musical ability by playing studio saxophone for independent and major acts while gigging with several live bands. He toured up and down the west coast for three years before teaching himself to play guitar. He started writing country songs and entered himself into several singer/songwriter competitions. He ended up winning first place in the 'Sing To Win' Competition at the World Famous Crazy Horse Saloon. It was at this point that Josh made the decision to make the move to Nashville.
As soon as Joshua came to town, he began playing every songwriter round available. He met the great Craig Wisemen, whom led him to his first publishing deal with Combustion Music.
One highlight of his career while at Combustion was co-writing the song, "That Could Happen To Us" for the Fox motion picture 'Kissing Jessica Stein'. Joshua also had the song, "I'll Wait For You" recorded by Arista Recording artists, Diamond Rio, as well as the title track and first single, "Watching You, Watching me, a top ten hit in Canada for Universal Recording artist, Michael Carey. Joshua's next publishing deal was at Full Circle Music which got him a few more Canadian cuts.
Joshua has had songs recorded by producers such as Dann Huff, Mark Bright, Marty Williams, Bobby Terry, Chris Farren, Mike Clute, Jeremy Stover and Randy Bachman.
Joshua appeared on this season of "Nashville Star" (USA Network), landing him on a summer long tour! Between the 9 million viewers every week, and the thousands of people that came out for the tour, Joshua has built a strong, loyal fanbase!
His first single, "Rock n' Roll and Pensacola", was number 1, eight weeks in a row in the panhandle and made it to 64 on the Billboard Country Music chart and got an excellent review in Billboard magazine this summer! And go buy Danielle Peck's cd on Big Machine Records, to hear one of Joshua's songs, "Do It For Me"! Get it on iTunes!
Joshua now writes for the world famous Harlan Howard Music Publishing company and is already on his way to some major artists recording his songs in '09, and is touring the country, playing every college in America and looking for a record deal with his new duo partner, Meg Allison!
