About Joshua Tree Roots Music Festival
What

The 7th annual JOSHUA TREE MUSIC FESTIVAL is a true global dance party in the magical mojave. A three day high desert camping experience in the shadows of the otherworldly national park. Live music alternating on two stages in one music bowl means you don't miss a beat. Free water, huge shade cloths fly overhead, no service charges, great sight lines to the stage. A real community affair with Lux Lounge late night, kidsville, mad art installations, organic foods, on site camping and world market. Come dance under the stars and howl at the moon !

Joshua Tree Music Fest Fall 2007
So it was a 3 hour drive thru mostly sparsely populated desert (pretty much just like living in Ridgecrest). Get there, have pre-paid camping, tix at will call. Only a few hundred people is my guess. Brought firewood, but realised that fire barrels were few. Set up camp, concerned about the forecast for very heavy winds, staked everything down well. Went to get the lay of the land. Inside, two stages set 90 degrees apart. Totally awesome Carolina Chocolate Drops set, which included a couple of guests from S.D., Danny "SlapJazz" Barber and Leland "Spoonful" Collins. Really awesome old time music. Then later, The Reverand Peyton, along with wife Breezy and brother Jayme, were even more entertaining than at High Sierra! Uncle Earl - saw them at Merlefest this year as well - I love to see an all-girl band really kick ass! Then the wind came...Boy howdy! Spent a few hours napping in the truck out of the wind. Got up LATE! ARG! Missed the beginning of Hot Buttered Rum. When I got there, the guys had ski goggles at the ready to deal with the wind driven sand. Pretty funny. I really enjoyed the remaining first set. And the second set I think was the first time I heard Aaron's "Metrosexual" song. I really love these guys. They are so talented, not only as skilled musicians, but songwriters, comedians, just plain good entertainers. I could be hooked...;-) - (oh, already booked flight/room in Denver for NYE at the Oriental! See you there!)

P.S. Later that night the winds stopped - sweet calm. AND I snatched someone's unused fire barrel YAY! The next morning there were many camping shades disposed of in the dumpsters (having not survived the winds)! And I am wondering if the guys (HBR) will be back to JTMF because I worry that the desert was not enjoyable for them. I have not seen anyone post a set list for the show. I can name a few songs that they played, but not a complete set list to provide...
