who are you? what do you do? joshua wickerham is my name. playing the guqin is my game.
what is the guqin? it is the ancient chinese zither.
how do you pronounce guqin? "goo cheen"
where was "the concubine's resentment" (guan shan yue) recorded? at the Yuefu Guqin Shop in Shanghai, which used to be in a thatched roof building just down the street from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
where were the other songs recorded? At the Ann Arbor home and studio of Randall Beek, who also does music at Crazy Wisdom Tea Shop.
any other recordings or performances? I played some experimental music at Columbia University's Computer Music Center. what else do you play? i play around with the banjo. my great grandfather used to play the banjo. he'd string a rope between the buildings of downtown stanton michigan, walk it, come down, play the banjo, take a collection, and then buy his friends steaks with the money. would i were as brave, you'd all be eating fake meat products BBQed. i've messed around with the garbanjo, which i call the octanjo. it's like a banjo, but has an octagonal wooden head made by a dude with a big beard in the forests of northern lower michigan. i also mess around with the didgeridooooo and the french horn.
