Bio

Bio:

Jo Lewis grew up in Manchester, stealing her parents’ records and learning to play the piano. In her teens she picked up the guitar and began writing songs, influenced by the rock bands that played on her stereo. She took a music performance course at City College Manchester where she swapped influences with fellow musicians, developing the vibrant musical palette she now draws from in her songwriting.

Lewis relocated to Derby in 2006, taking a degree course in Popular Music with Music Technology. Here, she honed her musicianship, refined her songwriting and began recording, resulting in the EP these four walls (2007), which received positive reviews. After gigging extensively and a brief stint with acoustic project Known By An Alias, Lewis recruited a band and began recording Picture Show (2010), a diverse yet cohesive album that shows off her musical versatility and delicately crafted songwriting. Picture Show was re-released in February 2012.

Jo Lewis continues to gig across the UK, usually performing alone with her guitar. Since 2009 she has been leading educational music workshops with various community groups, which she considers to be a vital part of her work as a musician.

"'Picture Show' is available on CD at gigs, or from selected record stores (BPM Records, Derby; Piccadilly Records, Manchester).

Sounds Like:

"the most timeless sounding acoustic music I've ever heard. Guitar and voice combine to sound like something that should come on a 78rpm vinyl and be played on a gramophone." -Biff Birkin, Time Travel Opportunists
