JOTUN
The name Jotun is taken from Norse Mythology. The Jotun were a race of giants in opposition to the Gods of the time. The band has influences rooted in the classic metal bands of recent years. Metallica, Slayer, Testament, In Flames, Lamb of God, Mastodon, and the like, all combine together to give Jotun a unique blend of sounds and styles.
The band's lineup is Simon Mitchell (Guitars & Vocals), Alex Collins (Guitars & Vocals), Kieran Mitchell (Bass & Backing Vocals), Ash Guest (Drums).
2007 was a good year for Jotun, their debut gig at the Golden Cross in Coventry generated a record number of noise pollution complaints from the surrounding neighbourhood, which was pleasing to both the band and the audience in attendance. Jotun have built on the success of their debut and never looked back, support slots alongside the likes of The Mirimar Disaster (Undergroove Records), Errander (In At The Deep End Records), Carrion of Vigrid, Carpathia, Castor Troy, Fume, Mel Gimpsuit, have further helped the band hone their live performances into a blisteringly tight metal act. The band has also headlined an unsigned band showcase at The Charlotte in Leicester.
2008 started with the departure of their original drummer Andy Hardie, but the rest of the band has continued on and completed their first demo in April '08, March of the Giants, which was entirely self-produced. The rest of '08 was spent writing new material and finding the right man to replace Andy on the drums. In December, the band recruited Ash and the band are now looking to start gigging again and take their unique brand of metal to the masses.
The band recently had the title track from their demo feature on the covermount CD of well respected extreme metal magazine, Zero Tolerance.
REVIEWS"As listener's to last issue's free CD will already know, Jotun play gritty thrash with some progressive elements. Old-schoolers like Slayer and Metallica are reference points, but the band's style is refreshingly non-derivative, and despit the prog touches, this remains 100% metal throughout. All three tracks are satsfyingly tough with a nice rough-hewn production, 'Inhale This Hell' being my favourite due to the killer slow riffing".Will Pinfold - Zero Tolerance MagazineHELP US PLAY BLOODSTOCK!Jotun will be playing in the heats of the Metal 2 The Masses Competition at The Queen's Hall in Nuneaton on Sunday 24th May. Tickets will be available soon, so come down and support the band and help us get through to the finals and then onto Bloodstock.
