Sami-K, whose full name is Samuel kiggundu, is an urban Gospel music artiste whose style varies from RnB, Hiphop, Dance hall,Fussions and Ballads.
Sami’s singing dates back to the mid 80s’As a little boy, I used to travel with my older sister, auntie and grand father singing all over the country with different choirs and gospel artistes under the Uganda Association for Christian Music (U.A.C.M).our group was called The Mukasa’s singing group which was named after my Grand father now the late Yeko mukasa (R.I.P).we did shows at community centers, churches and schools. Because my grand father was old we couldn’t carry on with the tours and performances as he was growing frail. This brought a halt to the singing and traveling for the group”.
In the early 90’s, the desire to sing woke up again in him and he started singing in school where he won the hearts of his teachers and principle that he was made the school choir prefect. After his high school with the music nudging in him, he joined his church youth choir and later became its leader and director. He didn’t stop at only that, he also joined the main choir of his church Kampala Pentecostal Church (K.P.C) quickly moving up the ladder, he was asked to join the worship team as a back-up Tenor singer which he did for 2 years and then was asked by the church music director and wife to the senior pastor Marilyn Skinner to join the globe trotting Watoto Children’s Choir in 2000 which saw him travel to the United States of America, Canada and the United Kingdom. in this same period of time, he was also a part of some musical groups in his church like Sanctuary a group he started himself and with its collapse joined the U.K/U.S based gospel quintet FIRST LOVE which he performed with every time he was in town and available. After his 2 years of service with watoto, he embarked on a solo project as his friends First Love were no longer in the country and the members of Sanctuary busy with their careers and families. This saw him record his first single called” PRAISE HIM” that was paid for and co-written by his best friend Paul Kim from First Love. This single was such a success and got major air play on the local Christian radio stations which caught the attention of one of the gospel music producers in the country who offered him to do a second single called Alright which also got a lot of air play. In this same period of time he became a co-producer with Alpha-1 records where he was recording and also started mentoring young musicians like G.3.U, Jimmi- K to mention but a few.
Today Sami-K has worked so hard and put out his first gospel album called rhythm & praiz which is a 16 track album recorded at the biggest gospel and one of the best professional studios in the country. The album is produced by First Love.
Currently, Sami-K has gone on to become a vocal coach working with award winners like the Obsessions, Titi and Winnie Munyenga who are all P.A.M award winners. With all this success, he is still humble and mentoring many other artistes and doing all he can to boost the gospel music industry. He is also serving in a new church called Rock of Deliverance Ministries international under pastor Happy Ngabo as the Music/Worship Pastor.
