Bio
FOREWORD-I started playing guitar at 14 with the aim of becoming a guitar shredder. Didn't quite go to plan so I decided to concentrate on making up melodies rather than learning all the solos and finger tapping that turn mere mortals into guitar gods. Singing didn't come naturally at first but once I wrote a few songs I got a better idea of how to use my voice to complement my guitar playing. The piano took a long while to get a handle of too and I'm still in the process of finding my way around a drum-kit, so I'm by no means the finished article but I wouldn't have it any other way. Journal Keepers comes from a Lee Ranaldo lyric found within the Sonic Youth song, 'Skip Tracer'. Through it I'm trying to make reference to how music acts as a thread through time. When I hear favourite songs of mine, I often get a flashback of where I was when I heard it years before: whilst in Manchester Airport with my walkman on, whilst staring out of my bedroom window on a summer's night with the lights off, whilst watching the closing montage of the Euro '96 semi-final where England lost on penalties (sigh). The mental triggers that music sets off just reminds me how important a role it has played in my life and surely those of many others. I love its ability to last in spite of all else. For now, I hope to soon finish some versions of my songs that have string arrangements and percussion in them so when I get them done I'll get them up too. See you soon and thanks for listening, Dan -
