The “Moratorium on Selfishness Walk”
Walk From North Carolina to Washington D.C
Start Date: April 23,2009 6 a.m
15-25 Days on Foot
In the perusal of the issues that exist in our communities today...I’ve discovered that there’s an immediate need for a moratorium on selfishness. Over time, we’ve somehow... Inconspicuously become less humanitarian and less compassionate…There’s an immediate need for… a call to action.
This call to action requires the masses to be proficient in Servant Leadership. It requires that we expeditiously..Become philanthropic creatures. There’s a demand for love in our world, yet the supply seems..to be abating as each day goes by.
In our consistent pursuit of happiness, we’ve somehow disconnected from the “Least of These.” The demand for social reform in our communities, and communities abroad, has been neglected. The pursuit of public acknowledgement… somehow became part of the equation. The human need for significance …detailed in the studies of Alfred Adler..give opportunity to our less compassionate, less loving, less giving characteristics.
In a time of economic peril, “The People” have lost a great deal. We’ve lost jobs, we’ve lost homes, and from community to community, if you really look close, we’ve lost the most important component needed to revitalize our nation; FAITH.
We can point fingers at whoever we want to for the state of our economy, but at the end of the day, that’s takes away from the time needed to find a solution. Our children, and the generations to come, are depending on us to find solutions.
Everybody has to play a role in making this nation a better place to live in. We can’t put all the responsibility on our government, we can’t put all the responsibility on our churches, etc; we all have to play a role. To make this nation a better place, we actually have to work together for the common goal of creating a better future for our children, and the generations to come.
I believe in my heart that our government is doing everything they can to create a better America. Barack Obama is a true blessing to our nation, and I have confidence that he is, and will, continue to make changes to create a better environment for the American People. My concerns aren’t with our government. My concern is the “The People.”
We have to take on the belief that we are responsible for us. I understand that “it takes a village to raise a child,” but I’ve also grown to understand that “It takes the entire village to make the village a better place for everyone in it.”
Everyone can contribute to making our “village” a better place. It doesn’t take a lot; it just takes a little effort from everyone. We have to be willing to sacrifice something, to create change. There is a role that everyone can play. You don’t need to have a PhD, a clean record, or thousands of dollars to contribute. You just have to be willing to play a role. “We The People” have to work together. We have to be willing to push towards a better society; regardless of how big or small we think our contribution to society may be.
Regardless of our differences, (race, gender, political views, income, etc), it’s our responsibility to show our youth that we are completely capable of coming together to improve the conditions of our society.
When you are with your children, and you walk by a homeless person; what do you do? How is your action affecting your child? How is your action affecting the mindset of our future generations? In our current economic state, there are more and more families becoming homeless each day. The future of mankind is dependant on what we do in these moments.
When you have the ability or resources to help someone obtain employment and you sit back and do nothing; how are you helping our society become a better society? Jobs are scarce, and each month businesses around the nation are closing their doors. People are suffering. We all have to help; we all have to be willing to play a role.
Over the course of the next 15-25 days, I and a camera crew will be walking from Fayetteville, N.C to our Nations capital. We are making this selfless sacrifice to play our role in creating a better society. Our intent is to show America that “We The People” all have the determination and faith needed to create a better America. As we make the huge sacrifice of walking almost 400 miles to our nation’s capital to influence Americans to play a role in creating a better society, we hope that people all over this country will be inspired to make sacrifices within their own communities, to create a better America.
We do not represent any organization, we don’t have any funding of any kind, nor do we have thousands of dollars to finance this journey. What we have is the faith and determination to inspire America’s people, to come together and make this nation a better place.
As we make this sacrifice, we are asking all Americans to participate in a “Moratorium On Selfishness.” While we take this journey, we are asking people in every major city and every small town, to help at least one person who is in need.
If there is a homeless person or family in your community; do what you can to help them in any way that you can. If there is a youth center or a youth program in your community; volunteer at least, some of your time. If there is a troubled kid in your community that needs direction, give them some words of encouragement; help them get on track. If there is a older couple that needs some help around their home, or maybe they need someone to cut their yard; do what you can to help.
We are asking that for the next 15-20 days, everyone sacrifice and play a role in creating a better society. As our children see us playing a role, they’ll understand how important it is for them to play a role; and this cycle will help create a better society for generations to come.
We are making a 400 mile journey on foot; we are only asking that you help someone, right there in your community. It doesn’t take weeks of planning to help someone. There’s something that you can do right now to help someone. We got together and said we are going to help change the state of our nation. We didn’t have a meeting about a meeting, we didn’t wait on sponsors; we just have Faith and Determination to play a major role in influencing changes for a better society.
We are recording every step of this journey. Throughout the journey, I will be writing a journal to record what took place throughout these 400 miles. Regularly, we will be uploading video footage of the start of our day, via http://www.youtube.com/user/JovanRoseboro . (We will try our best to upload footage on a daily basis.)
We will be giving hourly updates on our journey via https://twitter.com/jovanroseboro also we will be giving daily updates at www.changeispossible.bravehost.com .
We are asking that you spread the word about this journey, and most of all, spread the word about a nationwide “Moratorium on Selfishness” throughout this journey.
We are traveling with very little resources and ask that if you want to donate to our cause, please visit www.changeispossible.bravehost.com . There is a donation button there, and all of your help is greatly needed and appreciated. We are moving on faith, and America’s youth, need to see ordinary people making extraordinary sacrifices, so that they will understand that a little faith and determination can change a whole nation.
Please forward this information to all of your friends and family. We want America to come together to make this “Moratorium On Selfishness” effective. Watch what happens across the nation, as we band together to help people in our communities.
Please help get this information to every media outlet in the country. We have faith that our efforts will influence the entire nation to play a role in creating a better America.
