Formed by Jowe Head ( alias: Stefan Vogel ) and Mercedes Mole ( aka: Sue Milnthorpe ) around 1987 and named as such, at least in part, by involvement in the local squatting scene. We felt some affinity with the noble Viking people, and Sue's family name is Norse, so to amuse ourselves, we pretended we were from Finland. The music press believed us, so it stuck! For the first single "Cuticles"/"Shopping City", we invited Trudi Holt (The Palookas) and Lucy Cameron (aka: The Holey Ghost) to contribute keyboards and alto sax. It got released by 53rd and 3rd label in Glasgow, and got great reviews.
We released another single "Cooler Than Thou"/"Mole In A Hole"/"Tell Tale Heart" with that label, then formed our own label, Hollow Planet, which was named after a club we were running in Dalston.
We would put ourselves on the bill, alongside my other bands Television Personalities and The Palookas, plus groups we enjoyed like June Brides, Membranes, BMX Bandits, The Prisoners, Spit Like Paint, The Legend, The Loft and so on.
By this time we were playing live regularly, often wearing horned helmets, augmented by drummer Stark Zoomer (aka Jeff Bloom) who I knew from Television Personalities, and the enigimatic Lindsey on bass; Rob Mack later took over the bass - he never recorded with us though. As a 6-piece we put out our own single "Warp Factor Thirteen"/"Dorsal Fin", and our own album " Feeding Frenzy".
The records were all on vinyl. The album is still available in limitted quantities. For details enquire here! The Househunters have not so far been available on CD.
