Yea, that's the hotness right there!!
If you could combine Alanis Morissette's poignant lyrical genius with Sarah Brightman's deliriously exquisite voice, Beethoven's dark passion with Chopin's deliciously dissonant progressions, throw in some of Fiona Apple's smooth melancholy with Maya Angelo's poet beauty, and top it all off with Ani DiFranco's honest "in your face" ingenuity, you'd have everything I try to drive into every piece of music I give birth to. Holla!
My musical influences are classical, r&b,soul, hip hop, rock, spoken word and pop. Like a big ole yummy melting pot, baby!
Joy Crowers is a classically-trained singer with a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance from West Chester University. She is a Singer/Songwriter/Producer and is in the process of recording her first album titled These Games.
She is a published writer who first started writing poetry at the age of 9. She began composing and performing at 15 and went on to study music at the professional level at age 18, after passing very competive auditions at both Wilkes University and at 19, West Chester University.
In 1998, she met her match in the brilliantly talented mind of pianist and songwriter, Brian Kelly and the two have been inseparable since, writing mind blowing music, unconventional progressions, and rendering passion and vulnerability as if they were puppets on strings.
The songs of These Games are autobiographical and speak volumes of the mental "games" we play; with each other and with ourselves. When asked what she hope to accomplish with this album, Joy stated, "I want to heal people through music; to provide a venue where empathy and understanding prevail. I want to change the way people think about life, about love, about themselves. I want to redefine a whole culture of music; to create an entire genre of expression just so people can categorize me. I want to change the world."

Alanis has been covered yet again, this time melded with Tori Amos' Juarez... I don't know if you've ever heard me play in this style before but my God I love it!
"Juarez/You Oughta Know
This is a melding of two of my favorite songs that serves as a double indictment of those who abuse, defile, and flee, never having to account for the desecration of their sordid aftermaths. The inspiration comes from Tori's (and Clyde's) live reanimation of Juarez. The sparse harshness of the piano comes from her unforgettable solo piano performance of Juarez at her London So High Solo Concert. There are a few mistakes but I had a blast playing this one. It's loud and tortured, as both songs are from what I can tell. Arrangement by BPK. Hope you enjoy. "
I love Tapes too! Versions of Violence has grown on me once I realized what it's about. Giggling Again for No Reason is my favorite on the album. I don't think there's a single thing I would change in that song. I still think you're just as good a lyricist (if not better) than your idol. Time for the torch to be passed! <3, B
Thank you for the birthday greeting. My original response for you was stopped by the captcha, that stupid graphic with the twisted numbers/letters. I had a song for you, instead it's in a bulletin I sent out cause the evil captcha stops them in comments I try to send out from this PC. Grrr!

Splendor rocks! I wanna film a piano solo cover of one of your songs--Cannibal or These Games I was thinking in the coming weeks. With a link to your page. You might get a bunch of hits from the link. Is that cool w. you? Love, B
I couldn't say that cause of the "crystal ball" effect. You never know when you're being watched these days! Besides, you don't go to school for "seven years to be called Mrs..." LOL!
Actually, I think the modern album you might like most by Tori is Scarlet's Walk. It's the one that's most often compared to Little Earthquakes but in an evolutionary sense, not a throwback. The similarities are a bit more narrative and confessional overtone. While a lot of her now trademark metaphors abound, it's largely down-to-earth, dealing with concrete topics such as pornography, Native American sacrifice, and bipolar disorder. I played my favorite song from Scarlet's Walk called Virginia and put it up today. First time trying this and it's spontaneous and rough. Hope you like! Much love, Brian
Joy! I've been thinking of you. FWIW, my phone is missing since Tuesday and the mailbox is full so that channel of communication is closed until I get that replaced (or located... a prospect that grows increasingly unlikely with each passing day, kind of like having your daughter meet some whackjob on the internet and then disappear for 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, ad infinitum!). :-)
Alanis will always be Alanis. However, in the other realm of things, I think Tori is completely eclipsing everything I found so enchanting about Madonna. I still love the latter, but Tori is like Madonna+++++. I love love love Tori's new album. It's a concept album about a fractured female psyche into the return of Greek Goddesses, now modernized, set mostly to 70's rock influences. Whether she's surreal (as you well put it) or starkly confessional, she is always a feminist force of nature... as are we. :-) One of her alter-egos on the album, Isabel, looks eerily familiar... are you thinking what I'm thinking? Here she is:
Hey Joy!!! Thank you! Thank you! I so appreciate your kind and thoughtful words!!! I hope you're doing great and I'll defintely let you know when we play!!
