Cynthia
Joy lifted her voice in song at an early age in the S.S. Robinson
Choir and the United Voices of Praise at United Methodist church.
Her interest in music and development as a vocalist was expanded
in the public schools. At Landon Performing Arts Middle School,
Joy began to study and learn the dynamics of music. Throughout
her journey Joy has participated in various choruses and choirs.
Joy is a graduate of the University of North Florida and is employed
full time by the State of Florida as a Child Protective Investigator.
She is also a licensed mortgage broker and owner of Immaculate
Home Services but music has always been her passion.
Her
vocal expression of inspirational, rhythm and blues, jazz, neo-soul
and contemporary sounds of today has led to many solo performances.
In 2004, Joy accepted an opportunity with Nokturnal Escape Ent.
to wow audiences at Boomtown Theater and Restaurant, Henrietta's,
the Spring Jazz Festival at the Jacksonville Landing and at the
Florida Black Expo.
After
her start with Nokturnal, she has managed to take new audiences
to new levels with her soulful sounds over the years. She's
taken more opportunities to perform locally at venues such as
Square One for Martini Mondays and Eclate Jazz Club currently
The Dive Bar. She has also lit up the stage with Up & Up Entertainment
and Major League Entertainment for Big City Tuesday Nights @ Arielle's.
During this time, Joy has built beautiful relationships while
sharing the stage with various bands such as Even Still, Emotions,
Soul, B-Natural, Segway and The Band of Destiny... musicians such
as Al Reshard, James Hogan @ John "Lil John" Lumpkin...
and vocalists such as Akia McDaniel-Davis, Jaime Sampson, Jerome
a.k.a. Brian H., Tony "T76" White, Demure, Micheal
Jackson & Lyric to name a few.
In
2006, Joy shared the stage as a backup singer for Chris Epps of
Jacksonville, Melonie Daniels, Marvin Scott and Natalie Walker
of New York in the production, "More Than Just A Song"
presented X-Factor Entertainment which raised donations for sickle
cell awareness. She has also performed in Richmond, Va and at
The Village Underground in New York.
The
last two years brought about new endeavors, as she co-starred
as Ms. Billie Holiday in the summer and fall productions of the
Nokturnal Escape stage play, From Billie to Badu.
At the begining of this year she entered the world of radio, when
she collaborated with Mperfect Entertainment to record a radio
commercial for Saturn of Tallahassee.
As
2008 presses on, she found herself wanting to embrace her own
creativity and take it to the next level. She decided to turn
her own private poetry into a very public album. As we patiently
await its release, let's show love and support for Jacksonville's
own, up and coming female vocalist, Ms. Joy Dennis as she heats
up the crowd at First Fridays Remixed at Tera Nova Lounge, Sexy Second Saturdays in Palm Coast and at Arielle's Every Wednesday.
