The Joy Singers Choir was set up in 1997, in Valenza (Italy).
The Choir sprung out from a small group of members of a vocal class held within the city Music School, "Circolo Amici della Musica".

Our present membership is roughly 44 non-professional singers, divided in four vocal sections (altos, sopranos, tenors and baritones), one musical director and one choir director.
A six-member live band is accompanying every performance (piano, keyboards, drums, bass, guitar and sax). Sound engineering & service is also part of our permanent staff.

Intense concert activity in theaters, churches, schools and many other venues, with a particular attention to fund raising initiatives. We are also asked to sing at weddings and other such occasions.
The inspiration mainly springs from the afro-american music background.
The repertoire includes about 50 songs, stretching from the traditionals to more recent, almost contemporary Gospel compositions.
Accurate use of tasteful rhythmic arrangements, blending together soul, rhythm 'n' blues, funky and jazz are the ingredients of our personal and unique performances.

We are a non-profit making organization. The expenses of running the group are covered by contributions from the members, support from local public organizations and any contributions we receive from singing for private audience.

We mostly like singing gospel music and we like to let others get closer to this inspired form of music, in any way that is thought appropriate.
Besides this, as a non-professional group of singers, we are always hungry to learn.
And, you know, "...it is good to be hungry, you learn better and faster!"
So, look here below: we have been blessed in our search, because we have found how to feed our artistic hunger and to warm our hearts!
The fantastic LCGC Valenza Workshop Team !! Our point of reference in Gospel Music

In addition to our our primary point of reference in the gospel music, that is our co-operation with the LCGC Workshop Team, in March 2008 we took a further strategic move in our development and support programme, by asking Audrey LAWRENCE-MATTIS to be our vocal coach and choir trainer.
Her work with the JSC is planned to cover one full year of cooperation, and it is based on one weekend workshop per month. We expect this effort to assure effectiveness and results to improve the quality of our choir.

AMC Chorale

With her roots firmly planted in the oral gospel music tradition, Audrey has embarked upon a career of bringing popular and gospel music to the masses. Her work as a teacher, performer, trainer and motivator spans over 25 years.
Provided with an impressive musical and artistic biography, Audrey is well known for working effectively with people of all ages although her work with young people is renowned. Her knowledge of making singing accessible is attested by all who work with her in music and vocal workshops.
