About me: BIOGRAPHY
Juan L. Picorelli was born in San Juan, P.R. on August 5, 1983.
At age of four he played the drums for his church. Guided by his father
and uncles he learned to play bongos, congas, and then timbal accordingly.
At age of twelve he attended Escuela Libre de Musica E.R.A. of Hato Rey,
P.R. a school specialized in music. There he studied percussion with
Santiago "Chago" Martinez as his professor.
While still in school Picorelli had the many opportunities, one was
to be part of the Dance Band, at time directed by Mariano Morales, he also
was fortune enough to share stage with Gilberto Santa Rosa. At age of sixteen
he became part of the band for salsa Christian duo, David & Abraham, in which
he later became musical director. During this time he was lucky enough to
accompany Alex D' Castro, Ezequiel Colon, Jorge "Piro" Romero, Jose "Papo"
Rivera, among others.
In 2003 at the age nineteen he became part of the Phillarmonic Orchestra
of Puerto Rico, which is second after the Synphonic Orchestra of Puerto Rico, for
two years. He then played with many other artist such as: Victor Manuelle,
Michael Stuart, Cano Estremera, Lalo Rodriguez, Elias Lopes, Domingo Quiñones,
Rey Ruiz, N'klabe, Tito Nieves, Frankie Negron, Plena Libre, NG2 to mention a few.
In his short musical carrer participated as a recording artist for various
Christian and secular artists including Abraham Velazquez(El Mejor Regalo), Jose Ferrer(Raices Coros De Siempre), Merly Hernandez(Donde Nacera Mi Hijo),
Anthon(No Te Puedo Olvidar), Lunny Tunes(Mas Flow 2), and NG2(Al Fin y Con Todas Las De Ganar) for whom he was also musical director for 1 year, and
many others.
Picorelli currently lives in Chicago where he has the opportunity to be part of
bands for: Aretha Franklin, Luisito Carrion, Eddie Santiago, Tony Vega, Johnny Rivera,
Lefty Perez, Van Lester, Ismael Miranda, Frankie Morales, Paquito Acosta, Kevin Ceballo, Wichie Camacho, Hector Tricoche, and Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble where is a member. Also he’s been privileged enough to be musical director for Maelo Ruiz, Alex D’Castro, Moncho Rivera, and Kayvan Vega. His most recent project is Pa’ la Rumba, a great new salsa band with an old school sound also created by Picorelli.
