Mac comes to The GrooveMasters with a stellar record of live performance experience at the national and international level. As the lead guitarist for The Deanna Bogart Band for 8 years, Mac played at the Monterey Blues Festival eliciting a quote from Johnny Winter, “Mac Walter is a great guitarist”. Mac has played with Washington DC greats such as Danny Gatton and Roy Buchanan. The Washington Area Music Association has awarded Mac The “WAMMIE” twelve times for his virtuoso guitar playing. .. .............. .. The featured bassist for The GrooveMasters is Steve Wolf. Steve has his own swing and jazz band that performs in numerous venues in the DC area. Steve has performed with Maryland & DC groups such as The Nighthawks, Tom Principato, CatFish Hodge, Cathy PonTon King, and big Jesse Yawn. On the national scene Steve has backed the likes of Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Clarence Clemons, and Dr John. In the blues arena Steve works with Jr Bynum, Sunnyland Slim, Pine Top Perkins, Bob Margolin, Charlie Musslewhite, and Jimmy Thackery. .. .............. Jimmy the Brink can easily serve as the premier drummer for The GrooveMasters. As good as they come on the drums, Jimmy has been playing drums since he was a boy. Jimmy the Brink went on to play the drums in the United States Marine Corps Band. Since Jimmy has been a civilian he has played with South Paw, Ellis Woodward, On the Brink, Hot Soup, David Zee, Detroit Slim, and Sue Trainor. Jimmy the Brink has been beating his way through life as a professional drummer knowing how to drive the beat and use the splash. .. .......... .. At any given time,“Sandman”, Steve Sandkuhler on harp, sax, flute, and bass vocals is our the everything man in The GrooveMasters. Sandman brings diversity to the GrooveMasters with his rock experience with the Duckpins, Capt. Quint, Jay Kishor, Josh Sandkuhler, Jorma Koukouin, and Lee Oskar. Sandman has opened for Jimmy Buffet, Simon Townsend, The Blues Brothers movie band, Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes, Smokey Robinson, New Riders of the Purple Sage, KC & The Sunshine Band, The Nighthawks, and NRBQ. ..
