J Rythm was born in the city of Los Angeles and raised in the valley of San Fernando where he discovered the love for mixing at the age of 14. One of his neighbors / best friend had invited him over his house to play with a set of turntables, a mixer, and a couple records that his dad had bought him. From that day forward he couldn’t get enough of it, he wanted to be over his friend’s house everyday. “The very first time I laid hands on those turntables and that mixer it was like I already knew how to DJ”. J Rythm got his first set of turntables at the age of 15. First picked up djing just as a hobby, while every other kid was playing with their video games J Rythm was in his room mixing house, trance, and old school hip hop records. A couple months after he got his turntables, they were stolen from his house while he was helping his parents move to Palmdale. He loved djing so much he decided to buy another set of turntables because there was nothing else he wanted to do but to mix. People in school began noticing he was pretty good at what he called a hobby, so they began asking him to DJ their house parties for a couple bucks. Soon after that, he was djing mostly every, like high school kids would say, “crakin” house party in the city of Palmdale and eventually became considered one of the best DJs in the Antelope Valley.
In 2003, after graduating from Palmdale high school, J Rythm moved back to his hometown to attend college to study for a career that later he would learn wasn’t suited for him. He never stopped djing while going to school but kept doing house parties and eventually began to record mix tapes. One day him and his friends were talking about going to a night club and came up with the idea of taking one of the mix tapes to the club promoter to see if they would hire him. At the time J Rythm’s friend had an uncle that worked at a local nightclub called “Ice”. They attended the club and J was introduced to a couple promoters and one of them asked if he can spin that same night to show him he can perform what he had on the mix tape live. So with no hesitation went back home to pick up his vinyl and rushed back to the club and tore the roof off as soon as he got on the tables. The name J Rythm began to quickly spread throughout the club scene and in no time was mixing at clubs 4 nights out of the week. At this point he realized that he wanted to take djing to the next level and pursue it as his career and main goal in life. His parents didn’t approve of this at first, but later began to see and understand that djing was only the first step in the latter of his career in music
J Rythm’s dream was always to one-day mix live on the air waves of Los Angeles radio. Even though J Rythm became a really popular name in the clubs, none of the right people in radio knew who he was. So he went around town applying at different radio stations like Power 106, KIIS, and the Beat, but never received a call back from any. J never quit, just kept working harde
r and harder everyday to get his name out there and improve his skills. One day he heard of a new radio station “Latino 96.3” that had just launched and was hiring DJ’s to mix on the weekends. A few months later J Rythm was introduced to DJ Eddie One, the mix show coordinator at Latino 96.3 and was told he was the one in charge of hiring the mixers for this new radio station. The day right after meeting Eddie One, J worked on a quick 20 minute demo to give to him and as soon as eddie heard it he informed him that he was ready to mix on the radio. J Rythm is now currently working at one of Los Angeles most known radio stations as an on-air mixer / on-air personality and can be heard during his two mix shows Monday- Friday from 1pm-2pm & 5pm-6pm. He continues to work and improve as each day passes by to one day live up to what people believe J Rythm is or what he can become in the future.
