Who is John Shotti?
Traveling down the narrow path of producers who have etched their uniqueness into the beats and bars of music, gracing radio airwaves and undeniably controlling the minds of followers alike, emerges a refreshing beatsmith with a distinct sound onto the scene. With melodies filled with versatility, inclusive of Hip-Hop, R&B, Pop and Rock, this eclectic producer will be sure to please, attracting the attention of all.
Life for him began in the Bronx(NY) during the 1980s, an era consumed with poverty, ramped drug abuse and a new music revolution Hip-Hop. Born Greg Morgan Jr., to parents Melody and Greg Morgan Sr., Shotti banged on pots and pans harmoniously, and vocally mimicked live instruments before he could even walk and talk. Realizing his natural talent, Melody worked overtime to help him pursue his dream of making music. As a child and aspiring artist, he took lengthy piano lessons, however, learning the musical works of Beethoven and Mozart quickly proved mundane in nature for him. He sought after his own unique sound.
Extracting elements from the environment that surrounded him and channeling that into verse, Shottis next step was to pick up a mic and rap. As a lyricist, he performed at local shows, winning the admiration of the crowd. Yet, he was frustrated with the recycled beats offered to him. With a purchased keyboard and borrowed DR5, Shotti began his climb into musical individuality. Influences such as Bootsy Collins, Stevie Wonder, Dr. Dre and The Neptunes all leant to his distinctive style. Partnering with college friend Devory Lefty Pugh, a perfect match was made, hence, the start of Shotti & Lefty Productions.
As an innovator, Shottis production company has written and produced works for many up and coming rock, alternative, pop, rap and r&b artists. Unquestionably, his love of music motivates him like a heart for the human body. He expresses, By being a child of Melody both literally and figuratively, I know I was born to do music. Certain to become a member of musics elite club of producers and songwriters, he continues to create feel good music without comprising his originality. According to him, my main goal is just to touch lives and have people be able to relate to my music and in a sense relate to me.
