GeneralSoprano Juliana Snapper creates and interprets non-traditional opera, playing at the expressive limits of bel canto, and even testing its physical limits in mondramas sung upside-down and submerged, mouth-to-water. Her performances have been described as “exhilarating” (Art in America), “precise”(Dallas Morning News), and “unbearably raw, a flayed shred of human need, desire, pain.” (TDR: The Drama Review). Snapper has been a soloist at numerous international music and performance festivals including the Ojai Festival, Sounds French, Fresh Sounds, Fierce! Festival, The Istanbul Music Festival, the Performa05 live arts biennial and at the The Disney RedCat Theater, The Armand Hammer Museum, PS122, and PS1in New York. Snapper’s writing appears in The Journal of Open Space, Encyclopedia: A-E, Performa: New Visual Art and Performance, and The European Journal of Cultural Studies. She lives in Los Angeles, CA.
