Saxophonist, Tommy Bradford has always been a realist. He believes in the realism of the effects of music on the human spirit. At age 35, this fundamental idea is what keeps him constantly developing his craft. Growing up in Chicago, he’s had the privilege of hearing a variety of music and absorbed a tremendous amount of Chicago's artistic culture. Tommy began his musical career in elementary school playing throughout high school and later graduating from Columbia College in Chicago with a degree in Music Business. Why Music Business? Because he believes it is the logical choice for modern artists who want to control their future as well as the future of global entertainment.
Tommy is extremely fortunate and grateful to have had mentors such as Paul Martens, Ken Chaney, Ari Brown, Pat Mallinger as well as the benefits of studying with Donald Harrison, Bobby Broom, Carl Allen & Delfeayo Marsalis. Tommy is presently a member of Maad Soul, Scientific Map, the Lewis Brothers group, Paul Parker band, the Tommy Bradford band and the John Style’s band. He has also performed and worked with a variety of artists/groups such as the Joe Piscapo group (formerly of SNL), the Donnie Greco group, Bill Dickens, Ron Haynes, Audley Reid, Clyde Davis, Louie- Louie, Joe Rendon, the Frank Parker trio, Mr. Ali, Funk Box, the Kendall Lewis trio, Double Forte, Religion of Peace and with Dj’s Lego, Lee Farmer of the Soul Selectors, Eric Williams, Felix, Stacy Kidd, David Sabat, Kenny Caraval, XL and platinum producer - Freak. He can also be heard on recordings with Dealious, the Hudson group, blues artist Chain Saw Dupont, Double Forte and numerous House music tracks produced by Dj. Lego. He was also a featured performer with Chicago’s Maad Soul group at the 2008 Chicago Grammy Listening Party in Chicago, IL. He is also the inspiration for a commissioned painting by Chicago artist, Alan Pulaski and is a part-time music instructor at Hinsdale High School and Joan’s Studio for the performing arts. He also made his screen debut this year appearing in a short independent film in Chicago and for a pilot for NBC’s –State of Romance in 2009.
Tommy’s desire to play in a variety of settings is nothing new. He’s always felt a musician should play in different settings to prepare for life after music school, as well as to develop ones own musical language. Tommy always felt a challenge when performing in a variety of settings, but his continued focus is always on his group, the Tommy Bradford Band (aka T2b). This is a truly gifted ensemble where all members share the same vision and idea of bringing you their own unique sound of music. He is also developing a new group called The John Style’s Band (John Style’s is Tommy Bradford btw!) that addresses developing important modern and classic music from a variety of different artist from the 60’s to present.
Tommy has also been a force in developing new ways to present music to different audiences in different formats. Whether it’s addressed or not, there is no denying the link between art and commerce. In a previous venture, Tommy became a partner in the Silver Room Jewelry stores of Chicago, IL in an effort to embrace the two separate ideologies. An excellent opportunity since live music was always an underlying focus of the Silver Room stores as well as jewelry, fashion, art and life. Tommy has previously worked with BBDO Chicago, Mary Green Promotions, Jazzin at the Shedd and has recent partnerships with local night life guru Dion Antic and event planners Will Harrison and Beth Costello in an effort to present live music outside traditional event lines. Tommy understands artists need new formats to present their craft as well as to develop their art form because the idea of entertainment is constantly evolving. With that being said Tommy continues to develop his music, philosophical ideas as well as to find new and exciting ways to present live entertainment. In the near future, he has plans for a new venue that will provide a hot mix of live national/international entertainment, local music, art and affordable eloquent cuisine to the masses. Tommy is also returning to school this fall to pursue a master’s degree in education, in order to help guide and establish programs in the elementary school systems.
Watch as he continues to develop as an artist and business developer for the entertainment industry. We sure are!
