My name is Jason and I play drum set, tabla, kanjira, and dumbek. I am based out of Austin. In the past few years, I have performed and/or recorded with Alexi Murdoch, Matt Nathanson, Terra Naomi, Cheb i Sabbah, Aashish Khan, Billy Joe Shaver, Eliza Gilkyzon and others.
I have included samples of a collaboration I did with guitarist, Darin Layne with Roberto Riggio on violin.
I also play with the world music band, Atash, out of Austin, Tx. http://www.atash.com.
The first track is a song I recorded by Mohammad Firoozi and Roberto Riggio from Atash. I made loops out of the recording, rearranged them, and added some electronica elements.
The next track is a remix of a song off of Atash's first album. It's my first remix effort.
The track "Indrajit Jam" is one that I produced and played tabla on. My friend Indrajit did the rest with his amazing sitar playing. The track is one of my first attempts at electronica fusion.
The third track, "Left of Sunday Afternoon" is a collaboration with guitarist Darin Layne and myself on tabla.
The last track is me messing around with recently acquired Cubase recording software. I'm playing guitar, tabla, and singing all the vocal parts to a song by Crosby, Stills, and Nash.
The first video below is from a tv appearance I did with Darin Layne. The tune is called "Left of Sunday Afternoon" and was written by Darin.
The second video is an improvisational percussion piece performed at a special Atash concert called Global Harmony. It features Alseny Sylla on djembe, Abbos Kosimov on doira, Gouri Shankar on tabla, and myself on kanjira and drum set.
