It has been a long road so far but I should not complain. I have made a lot of friends on the road and a lot of memories, a little money, and I have been told that I have had a lot of fun chasing this blurry dream. For those of you that have been to the shows you know what I mean and those that have not we have a whole lot to catch up on.
From the time I was young in Corpus Christi, Tx I knew I wanted to be a performer and have not been able to stay away from the stage for more than a couple of days since I started playing gigs at 13. Now 29, I have played all over Texas, Oklahoma, Nashville, and did a two year stint in NYC playing and recording everywhere I could.
After 9-11, the studio I was managing was only three blocks away and all the windows were blown in and the was studio shut down so needless to say, I had to find a new place to play. Subsequently most of the gigs in Manhattan were given to the veteran musicians and us young guys ( I was 21 at the time) were left to fend for ourselves. It didn't take long before I found myself living in the subway system on the trains and playing for change to get by. But music and the fact that I don't quit helped me save enough bread to move my girlfriend (now my wife) and our young son away from the city and back to Texas where I was born.
I have since played all over Texas, Oklahoma and a few weeks in Nashville playing wherever they will have me.
Before I left for NYC, I had already opened numerous national acts and a couple of Grammy- award winners. (Jimmie Vaughan, Los Lonely Boys, Lance Lopez, Lou Ann Barton, Marcia Ball, Kenny Wayne Shephard, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Chris Duarte, Ian Moore, Molly Hatchet, The Outfield, Zebra, Omar and the Howlers) all before my 20th birthday. While in NYC, I jammed or gigged with many, many acts the most notable artists being Jeff "Tain" Watts of the Marsalis Brothers, Mike Stern of Blood, Sweat and Tears, Larry Coryell, and Mark Epstein of the Johnny Winter Band. Since being back in Texas the list has just grown longer (Cross Canadian Ragweed, Stoney Larue, Bleu Edmonson, Grammy winner Pinetop Perkins, Hosea Hargrove, Alan Haynes, Murali Coryell, Jason Boland, Aaron Watson, Cory Morrow, Rusty Weir, Junior Brown, Smokey Wilson, Django Walker, Jarrod Birmingham, I was also a founding member of Curb recording artists Rio Grand.)
This past November I got 2nd place in Austin's Heart of Texas Blues Challenge.
Having released two albums ("JT Coldfire", and my sophomore effort "Crazy Sun") of all original material on my own Label 30-06 Records to great reviews and about to go into the studio again because I am just itching to get more done, I just can't wait to play for new audiences everyday.
I now live in Austin and I love it. Hope to see y'all around.
