Juan J. Colomer, aka Juan Colomer, aka Juanjo Colomer, aka Juan Jose Colomer... talk about multiple personalities. I was born and raised in Valencia, Spain and have been involved with music since I can remember. I was born in Val... (oops sorry, short memory). After finishing my composition studies I came to the States to continue my studies here and finally decided to settle in Los Angeles, where I've been for the last decade.
I've been lucky enough to have my music played and recorded, as compositions or orchestrations by some of the best orchestras in the world, such as the Vienna Symphony, the Paris Orchestra, the Arena di Verona Orchestra and Chorus, Orquesta de la Comunidad Valenciana (Les Arts)... and professionals like James Levine, Placido Domingo, Christian Lindberg and many others, and also had commissions from the International Horn Symposium, The Cultural Affairs Department in Spain, International Philipe Jones Competition in France, National Orchestra of Spain, Spanish Brass and many more.
And I did 7 symphonic arrangements for Placido Domingo's "Spanish Passion" CD under the Deutsche Grammophon label, which just won Best Classical Album at the 2008 Latin Grammy Awards!!
Of course, if you are in LA you can't avoid the temptation (and the economic reward) of composing for film, and in an attempt to be a good Angeleno, I've done my share of soundtracks, some of them I'm really proud of and others were a good learning experience. I even ventured into the Pop-Rock world releasing my own album called Bella y Oscura (www.bellayoscura.com). It was number 1 for 5 consecutive years in my grandma's list until she died, I hope the music didn't kill her!!!!!
