Gang of two since 1993.
live to play- play to live !
"Jucifer wield a Sleep-like density and enough metallic power to jostle Ozzy back to sanity" - Alternative Press
"Building utterly colossal walls of amplification, two-piece metal outfit Jucifer practically beg audiences to demolish their shows with wrecking balls of headbanging" - San Jose Mercury News
"You either submit to this band or just get out of the way" -Broward-Palm Beach New Times
"Jucifer have tackled a huge subject, and written songs to suit the occasion. L’autrichienne is brilliantly written and sequenced. The duo has successfully separated each facet of its signature sound and honed them to perfection, resulting in the array of styles heard on this sprawling 21-track record" - Alarm Press
"A dense, fuzzy, and often addictively sludgy album" - Kerrang
"Valentine's mammoth tone is concocted via an elaborate multi-amp/cabinet setup. You're immediately bowled over by the sheer weight of the sound" - Guitar Player
"Smart pop, quiet balladry, and bludgeoning sludge metal are all fair game... Valentine's voice ties things together, however; her croon sounds equally at home over acoustic guitar and Jucifer's wall of amps. (The band is famed for insanely loud shows involving upwards of 10-15 amp cabinets.)" - Pitchfork
"The amount of musical ground covered on this CD is astounding. From crushing doom metal to dreamy acoustic pop to punk rock to noise pop to grindcore, there's never a dull moment" - About.com: Heavy Metal

JUCIFER
Established in 1993 as collaboration between Livengood, Valentine and a drummer, whose goal was "to play the slowest and heaviest music on Earth". In 1994 Livengood switched from bass to drums, Valentine co-opted his gear, adding it to hers, and the band became Jucifer.
First recordings were done in 94-95, with only one track from the sessions seeing release although several would end up re-recorded for later albums. As Jucifer evolved they expanded their musical goals beyond 'slow' to embrace more diverse challenges. To date the band has attacked genres ranging from acoustic folk to grindcore.
While their albums have often showcased Jucifer's capacity for delicacy, the live show has remained an exercise in brutality.
Record labels have generally presented Jucifer as an alternative rock band, promoting their more accessible tracks. Valentine has said that they were discouraged [by labels] from making metal albums. She has also stated that the band enjoys writing and recording every type of song.
But Jucifer's extreme metal core is evident in their live show: wall of amplification, colossal drums, and a non-stop set of music best described as sludgethrashdoomgrind.
They are known to be wildly energetic on stage and incredibly [even unbearably] loud.
Critics often laud Jucifer for their schizophrenic output, as do the band's own fans. Those who dislike the band seem to do so based on the same diversity that draws others to them.
Jucifer was one of the earliest bands to combine very aggressive, down-tuned music with angelic female vocals, which seems to be a polarizing factor for listeners. Fans often praise Valentine's vocal range, which is also employed for varied styles of screaming and growling.
Jucifer is known for being pioneers of the two-piece band as well as for the fact that they have toured constantly since 2001. After numerous van tours during their years based in Athens, GA (1993-2000) the band literally moved into their tour bus. Valentine has stated that much of their writing since then stems from onstage improvisation, due to the fact that they are always touring and have no practice space.

JUCIFER has been defying the limits and expectations of two-person music since 1993. Known for brutal beauty and fiery intensity on stage, remarkable dimension on wax, and the most daunting wall of amplification ever wielded by a single guitarist, Amber and Ed bleed Doom. Pop. Noise. Majesty. -Rolling Stone
You can't pin a genre on JUCIFER. They are simultaneously one the heavist bands in the world and a fragile chanteuse with her paramour. And (with some exceptions) their live show is almost antithesis of the albums. If you only see/hear a part od their repertoire, you're not gonna get this band. You might dismiss it as not your kind of thing. Likely, your loss! The cool thing is that they just do what they want and could care less if it makes sense to anybody else. - Shadow Zine
Jucifer
Without a doubt, this was the LOUDEST, HEAVIEST, ACCOUSTICALLY MASSIVE outfit I've ever held witness to. That seems ridiculous considering the Death-Metal shows I've been to, 14+ Melvins shows and various Lightning Bolt performances. No disrespect to the affore mentioned bands, but these two lovely magicians just swooped you. Don't be fooled, though! They are far more than loud. They are impressive songwriters capable of delicate and intelligent prose. Their albums are testimony to the multi-faceted emotions that reside in the sweetest and darkest reaches of the human psyche. Their set left a lasting impression and I have resolved to see this band whenever possible. Sleep be damned! Jucifer calls!
*(By 'Sleep' I mean unconsciousness, not the Stoner-Rock Gods)
